>> What kind of test is done to check for diabetes?

Is it a blood test or something else? I’m wondering because I’m tired most of the time & I’m hungry even when I eat. I’m not overweight. Are those symptoms that fit the description? Thanks =]

The two definitive tests for diagnosing diabetes are the Fasting Blood Sugar test and the OGTT (Oral Glucose Tolerance Test).
Finger prick testing is NOT a diagnostic tool to determine diabetes. since it is a random snapshot of a persons blood sugar at the moment the test was taken and can be off by as much as 20% either up or down. It is a test that is essential for diagnosed diabetics but should only be used as a guideline to determine how well your treating your diabetes since there is a moderate degree of inaccuracy.
The other test is the Hba1c test that is used after diagnosis to determine how well or not the patient is doing after a 2-3 month period.
This test is heavily weighed to check fasting blood sugars.
The new test that is not yet well known is the Glycomark test that measures post-prandial (after meal blood sugars) over a 2 day to 2-3 week period. These two tests are now complimenting each other to get a better view as to when blood sugars are rising so they can be controlled better.

A simple fasting blood test will determine if you have diabetes.
These are the symptoms of diabetes, but you won’t have all of them.
unquenchable thirst
frequent urination
unsatisfied hunger
unexplained weight loss
blurred vision
itchy skin
infections that are slow to heal
numbness or tingling in hands or feet
fatigue
mood swings
impotency
Diabetes does not necessarily mean insulin injections. Many people control diabetes with a pill or diet and exercise alone. Good luck.
A urine test or finger prick are not accurate for determining if you have diabetes. Please consult your doctor. If left untreated it can be dangerous.

An A1C blood test is performed to measure the amount of glucose in your blood. Additionally, you may be requested to perform a timed blood test which requires you to drink a sugary substance. After drinking the substance your blood will be tested periodically to determine how fast your body breaks down the glucose in the sugary substance. Traditionally, a urine test is a primary test and the more intensive blood tests are performed after the urine test.
My mOm has diabetes…….and b4 she gOt a test take to check 4 diabetes..she would ALWAYS have to go to the restroom to pee…and she was ALWAYS thirsty…and she’d feel dizzy if she didn’t eat…if u have any of thOse symptoms then u might have diabetes…….
u have to get a blOod test…that’ll tell u if u have it….i gOt the test done b-cuz i had all the symptoms..and diabetes runs in my family so yeah…but when i got the test done..i DON’T have diabtes..sO yaaay!…u hsould get checked out b-cuz diabetes is nOt a game..it’s serious…my uncle passed away frOm Type 1 diabetes…and most of the young people whO get diabetes is TYPE 1..so u should b careful!!!…i wish u luck and hope u dOn’t have diabetes!!!..take care…dOn’t eat TOO much sugar!!..lol
Yes it is a blood test that is needed to determine if you actually have diabetes. Your doctor will probably order a fasting blood glucose and maybe even a Hemoglobin A1C. The HA1C will determine your blood glucose over a period of 3 months.
Your symptoms however don’t necessarily match those of an undiagnosed diabetes patient. If you are experiencing a change in bladder habits such as urinary frequency or nocturia (frequent urination at night) then i would be concerned. Might you have a family history of diabetes? If so then your chances of inheriting it are increased.
There are a number of things that your doctor can test for that may also explain your symptoms. ex- thyroid disorders, anemia, electrolyte imbalances, lyme disease. My suggestion to you, is that you contact your primary care physician, and make an appointment (sooner than later). Just to be sure.

Blood work and they can check your urine to see if you have alot of sugar in it…
