Living with diabetes increases the likelihood of experiencing on-the-job discrimination. Since 1992 more than 2,000 people filed complaints with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) specifically stating they were mistreated at work as a result of their having diabetes. Another 6,500 complaints cite visual ailments and problems with extremities-medical concerns frequently associated with diabetes-as underlying reasons for job discrimination
Hard to get comercial driving license.
Astronaut is out of the question.
You can’t get a pilot’s license or a job as a long-distance truck driver, and I believe there is some restriction on scuba diving.
Type I diabetics use insulin to cover the food that they eat, so technically there is no food which is forbidden as long as they take sufficient insulin to cover the amount of carbohydrates. Many, if not most, diabetics in good control choose to avoid foods that are very high in sugar (such as regular soda) in order to keep their blood sugars level, but these foods are not absolutely forbidden.
It’s an all too common misconception that people with diabetes cannot eat certain foods, especially candy or sugary foods. As the person above stated, this is absolutely not true. if it is you who has diabetes, you should talk to you doctor about this or research more for your own education. If it is a friend or someone else, they probably know this already- if they don’t, you should point them in the right direction. This is, of course, far more applicable to those with type 1 diabetes than type 2, which can be largely controlled by diet. Most people with diabetes avoid extremely high carbohydrate or fast acting carbohydrate foods/ drinks such as regular soda, juice, frosting, etc., but this is usually just to avoid the quick spike in blood sugar that can result and the empty calories. Hope this helps.
