I check my daughter’s blood sugar 10-12 times per day. She was diagnosed about 4 months ago now, so that’s … a lot of testing
)
So under those circumstances, how long will a meter last? I haven’t had any problems so far, except for half a vial of funky test strips. And when the meter goes bad, how does it go? Does it usually happen a certain way?
Oh, and tell me what kind of meter you have experience with. We use a One Touch Ultra every day, and have a Accu-Chek Compact Plus for back up. We’ve only used that one about 10 times total.
Thanks in advance!

I’m scared and new to the whole diabetes scene. I’ve searched online for meals and proper care…I’m still worried that I haven’t covered all corners. Its all new to our family, my mom is the first person to develop diabetes. Can anyone offer tips or good reading? She’s getting out of the hospital in another week so I’m trying to prepare myself as well as my brothers and sisters. Thanks in advance for your help.

Would a type 1 diabetic Greek citizen be conscripted into the armed forces? Would it be possible to volunteer for service if i’m not able to get conscripted? I’m asking this because after getting my B.A. (at a university in the USA) i’m planning on applying for greek citizenship (my grandmother was greek), and i’d love to serve in the Hellenic Army.
Thanks in advance.

I do remember part of what the commercial says if that helps at all:
"15 million people in America has type 2 diabetes. My own grandmother lost her battle. If you have type 2 diabetes, it’s more important then ever to watch what you eat and exercise regularly, and if that’s not enough ask your doctor about adding Avandia to your daily routine. Avandia is different than some diabetes medications. It uses the natural insulin it’s already making to help lower your blood sugar. With the addition of Avandia, a lot of people have been able to lower their blood sugar."
I’m just into drug ads in a way and wanted to know if you knew where the commercial is. I liked watching it on the internet before I couldn’t find it anymore.
Thanks in advance,
Andy…
Couldn’t find it in Google or Youtube.
The commercial was done with Jane Seymour.

My doctors office just called and told me my one hour turned out a little high at 140, so I have to go back Friday and take the 3 hour test. Have many of you out there had to take the three hour? And if so what were your results? I just wonder how common it is….thanks in advance for your answers

My soon to be mother-in-law is hypoglycemic and sometimes has short seizures. During these, she is basically immobile and they only last 2-3 minutes.
She has difficulty finding work because of this. Does anyone know any sort of work she can do from home that does not involve a start-up cost? Her husband is carrying the financial weight of the family and they are going to lose their house if she does not start bringing in some income.
Any help/advice is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance. Best answer lands the 10!

I would like to know a few things about Avandia.
1- Are there medications that can be taken with Avandia to help lower the chance of heart problems? (like high blood pressure medications and statins)
2- How does Actos compare to Avandia? Does it show the same risk?
3- Do they know where the increased risk might be coming from?
4- Is Avandia still on the US market? (I’ve read somewhere it might of been pulled)
5- Does anyone continue to take Avandia despite the risks and how are you managing that?
Thanks in advance,
Andy…

I have a strip with 10 colored squares used for urine analysis. I was wondering if the code is general for most strips, and where to find this code?
The strip is currently being used to test for urinary infection.
Thanks in advance.

A friend of mine has just been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, non insulin dependent. She has asked her GP to refer her to a dietician for some advice on what to eat and what to avoid, as she has overcome an eating disorder and is very conscientious about following advice now, but his response was "You don’t need advice, thousands of people have this condition, just deal with it". She lives in a small village and there are no other GPs in the practice. I’m worried about her as she is taking his refusal rather hard – I’m wondering if anyone has any practical advice on actually living with the condition (rather than advice about dealing with the GP, which, though useful, would probably not get through to her at this stage) Many thanks in advance for any serious response.
One thing I missed out – we’re in the UK – I don’t know if this makes a difference to the level of service which can be expected as, of course, we’re not paying for treatment as its on the NHS…..

I found out I have high glucose (pre-diabetes) … so I’m now taking medication and trying to change my diet and lifestyle. I do exercise daily for about an hour. I just want to start a diet and I’ve not had too much luck looking online. Every site tells me what I can NOT eat… but I can’t really find anything to tell me what IS good to eat…
Anyone have type 2 diabetes or high glucose ?? What kinds of things do you eat? Like as far as meals…? thanks in advance.

My mom has been on Lipitor for 2+ years. Very recently she has been feeling like a "zombie" as she put it. She feels no emotion and feels "empty". The only medication is has been on is Lipitor. I read the side effects of Lipitor and, sure enough, depression is one of them.
Is it possible that even though she has been on Lipitor for 2+ years, the side effect can occur now?
Thanks in advance!
