the cost of insulin per unit?

hi Im trying to find out what the cost of insulin is per unit, or per ten units. humalog or novalog.
Im just trying to figure out what it costs daily to live with diabetes, so any other diabetic supply breakdowns would be great, I.E test strips, lancets, ect

I recently lost my insurance and job, and have become financially strapped. I have signed up for the various programs available to get my Humalog/Novalog and Lantus insulin free, but it will be at least 4-6 weeks before they take effect, and my supplies are low now. I’m also in need of test strips, which are quite expensive. I’m looking for a resource that may be able to provide me these in the short term. I know many doctors get sample vials as my old DR used to provide them to me sometimes, and I’m hoping perhaps I can find such a source now. Help is much appreciated. Buffalo NY area specifically.
I’ve already contacted the drug company programs for free meds, but their process will take at least 4 weeks and my need is more immediate.

How long does your glucose meter last?

I check my daughter’s blood sugar 10-12 times per day. She was diagnosed about 4 months ago now, so that’s … a lot of testing :o )

So under those circumstances, how long will a meter last? I haven’t had any problems so far, except for half a vial of funky test strips. And when the meter goes bad, how does it go? Does it usually happen a certain way?

Oh, and tell me what kind of meter you have experience with. We use a One Touch Ultra every day, and have a Accu-Chek Compact Plus for back up. We’ve only used that one about 10 times total.

Thanks in advance!

How much do glucose meters cost?

I need to get one for a project. I’ve heard they’re a lot of money, but I looked around online and saw one for about , it probably isn’t as good, doesn’t come with enough test strips either, but its only a project, so I don’t need anything special. Does anyone know how much they cost? And a store that I could buy them at? Ex. Meijer, Target, K-Mart, Walgreens, Walmart, etc.

And I’m only testing 5 people once a week for four weeks. So I only need 20 test strips.

here is a question about implantation bleeding?

how is it that blood from our uterous gets into our bladder? i dont understand this. the doctor dipped my urine with one of those test strips to see if ihad and infection and such. there was no visibale blood in my urine. but the test strip read moderate amount of blood. the urethea is where we urinate from. how does the blood get in there? i could understand it if the blood was actually visibale in the urine, i would just assume it leaked out of my vagina. but to have a trace of it in the urine confuses me. i hope im makeing sense. last cycle i had no blood in my urine at all and was 1 week away from my period. this month im also at the doctor 1 week before my af and i have blood. im hopeing it was implantation bleeding and not af. how the frigg does it get there? i dont understand the concept?
just to clarify the question a bit more..i had no visible blood in the urine, it came from my bladder yes..but if it were implantation bleeding how did the blood get into the bladder???also last month the strip showed moderate blood, none in the cup she said i was going to get my period. again how did the blood from shedding my uterine lining get into my bladder 1 week before my period is due?

Dry Tabs, Liquid test kits or Test Strips?

I am just curious of what other fish experts out there think of which is the most "accurate water test" kits are for fresh water and salt water aquariums? I believe that the dry tabs are the most accurate but not as convient. Over the years we have developed ways to come up with quicker and easier tests (ie the liquid tests and test strips). But I feel with the convience you loose quality in some ways.

Who accepts used blood glucose meters for reuse?

Due to a change in my insurance plan, I will have either have to pay a lot more for my test strips and other suppliers or get a new blood glucose meter. I have decided to get a new meter.

Does anyone accept old meters so that they can be distributed to others who can not afford a meter or for some other purpose? My meters are relatively current models – One Touch Ultra series.
After recieving the first four answers, I was a bit disappointed. There are people all over the world who have diabetes and who can not access the so called "free" meters from the manufacturers. I am looking for an organization who accepts used meters and who has the resources to distribute them as well as the supplies that are needed to use the meters. For anyone who say a used meter is useless, please open up your mind to all the possibilities……….

My blood glucose levels?

I’m aware without a doctor and without fully knowing my situation, a diagnosis of Diabetes is not possible. I’d just like your input as to whether or not the numbers i’ve been getting are normal or pin-point to diagnosis. I have had a GTT test and should get the results in a few days.

I bought a monitor and some test strips and have been monitoring my blood suguar levels in mmol/l daily since my Doctor sent me for the GTT.

My morning level (or fasting) is usualy around 5.5 mmol/l.

After two hours eating i’m down to between 6 and 7 mmol/l

I’ve never gone higher than 8.7 mmol/l

Thanks for any input you may be able to give me.

How can you get your glucose reading down quickly?

I just began checking my glucose level after a morning fasting test showed it to be 200. I took the test to my doctor when my husband had an appointment. He said I need to be on meds but did not prescribe any. His nurse (on her own) gave me a meter and test strips. I have cut all sugars that I can think of from my diet, or that I know are turning to sugars, Now my readings range from the 150′s to 230′s. I did have a little mayo on a turkey sandwich (on Natures Own wheat bread) for lunch and a banana..about 4 hours ago, and now my reading is 228. I am going to make an appointment with him this coming week and take all my readings. I have back and knee problems so walking and exercize is difficult, but will that bring it down quickly? My ears ringing..is that diabetes as well? That has been going on for a long time now. I am a hundred pounds overweight. I cut out all soft drinks and sweet tea, virtually all salt and lost 23 pounds in about 5 months. That had to do with my weight, before I discovered I probably have diabetes. thanks!

insurance for diabetes will cover everything?

im 18 and im a type 1 diabetic. my parents tell me as long as im still in school, the insurance will pay for everything.

my problem with this is that i dont really believe it. i see it as a way for my parents to force me to go to college, which i had planned to do, but on my own time and terms.

also, can someone tell me what i would have to pay when im on my own, with an average insurance policy? i use ~30 units of novolog, ~42 of lantus , and ~5 test strips daily
