I don’t know for sure yet and I have an appointment soon to find out, but I fear I may be at risk of getting diabetes if I don’t change things in my life soon. I have already made several lifestyle changes including ditching fast food and sugary drinks and well as daily exercise for an hour, but I don’t want being healthy to be boring.

The majority of what I drink now is water, but some flavor would be nice. So, I like to drink tea with Lemon and Sweet N Low or water with Lemon and Sweet N Low.

I choose Sweet N Low because I prefer the taste over other artificial sweeteners. But is it okay for someone who has diabetes or is at risk of getting it to use Sweet N Low instead of sugar? I want to be healthy, but still enjoy the taste of food and drinks. So if Sweet N Low is a safe alternative, that would be a huge plus for my current diet plan.

I accidentally pinched myself with an insulin needle, after using it on my father, he has been tested and seems to be ok, besides high blood pressure and diabetes, I washed and cleaned my finger with alcohol, is there any risk of infection?

that people who take it have an increased risk of cardiac issues? I have been taking a 4 mg dosage, once a day, for almost 4 yrs. My internist wants me to stay on it, saying that the benefits outweight the risks. Several co workers have been taken off this med (different doctors). I am concerned because I have been very overweight in the past (still am, but less so) and have a strong family history of heart disease. Any comments or personal experiences would be appreciated.

In May, my doc said my blood sugar was just a little high, and to just keep an eye on my diet. I believe I have been doing OK in following his orders. I am 20 years old, a healthy weight, and in good health otherwise.

Am I still at risk for developing diabetic retinopathy even though I don’t have diabetes?

Avandia Questions…?

I would like to know a few things about Avandia.

1- Are there medications that can be taken with Avandia to help lower the chance of heart problems? (like high blood pressure medications and statins)

2- How does Actos compare to Avandia? Does it show the same risk?

3- Do they know where the increased risk might be coming from?

4- Is Avandia still on the US market? (I’ve read somewhere it might of been pulled)

5- Does anyone continue to take Avandia despite the risks and how are you managing that?

Thanks in advance,
Andy…

Diabetes (Type 1) complications?

Having been recently diagnosed at age 36 with Type 1 diabetes, I am overwhelmed at the moment with information but fortunately have been able to get my diabetes in control which is my top priority, however, I can not help but be concerned about the affects diabetes has on the body i.e. eye disease, kidney disease, heart disease…Scary to think about. I know they have come a long way in the treatment and understanding of Diabetes and certainly being diagnosed at my age rather than as most with Type 1, in childhood or adolescence I am at less of a risk merely by less years of damage to the body….My question is – if I keep my blood sugar in control, does this make me no different than someone without diabetes with regard to risk of complications? OR does just having diabetes put me at risk? I will do what I have to do to stay healthy and lesson my chance of complications and will continue my diabetes education to learn more – just wanted to see if anyone has an answer for this….

Diabetes Type 1 hereditary?

The paternal grandfather of my unborn child has type 1 diabetes. I’ve tried googling this, can’t find a good answer. What are the chances of this child having it?
If I have gestational diabetes, does the risk go up?

If I eat sugar while pregnant will the baby be born insulin dependent?

Sorry, if these are dumb questions, but I’m getting flack from a know-it-all. I just had my prenatal exam yesterday and I won’t see my doctor for another six weeks.

I’m doing a paper on diabetes because it runs in my family, and i am reading about how native americans, hispanics and blacks are at a much higher risk to develop the disease than non-hispanic, non native american whites. Yes i realize that certain minority groups may live in poverty, and of course that leaves them with a small grocery budget = cheap unhealthy foods. But that doesn’t mean their ETHNICITY has anything to do with developing diabetes? what the hell?

please tell me your thoughts on this!

If the diabetes educator sees a blood glucose log with numbers in the 120′s on average but there is no A1c of 8.8%, what should be considered what assessment questions should this person be asked, and what health problems are they at risk for?
