I am getting a blood test tomorrow at the docters. I am very afraid of pain and needles and I was wondering if I could put Lidocaine Ointment on my arm before the test to numb my arm. If I could not what other products could I use?
Thanks!

I keep running out of needles for the my glucose meter. Should I just reuse my needles for multiple sugar checks?
I was told to check 4 times a day and that makes them run out quickly.

I’m asking because my boyfriend is recently diagnosed with Diabetes. The past two months, with all the Metformin, Avandia, Lantus, Novalog, needles, gauze, alcohol, meter strips, etc. We are struggling. His health insurance only provides 00 gross towards prescriptions PER YEAR. We are very quickly coming up on that 00 and it hasn’t even been 6 months. I’m curious to know, are we doing something wrong? Why can’t we afford this treatment? It seems like a good many Americans have Diabetes, how does everyone else afford the many prescriptions? We’re freaking out, because we don’t have the money for rent, gas, food, etc. We feel like the Diabetes treatment has to come first, but all these co-pays for specialists and prescriptions has drained our wallets, we can’t buy food, nevermind entertainment. How does everyone else afford this?! What can we do?

I am petrified of having a blood test. Haven’t had my cholesterol checked in 20 years, and the doctor told me to go have a blood test. She said they will probably take 3 vials. I am afraid, does anyone have any suggestions…??? I am really afraid of needles.

Hello ladies.
I failed my 1 hr glucose tolerance test.
So now I have to do the crappy 3 hr one.
I was wondering if anyone knew if I could opt to get my blood sugar levels through finger pricks instead of blood draws at the lab.
Obviously I will ask the lab when I make my appointment, but was just curious if anyone else did this.
I have a REAL problem with needles and even made my Husband cry when I had my first blood draw.

I am a Type 2 diabetic and take the following medication:
- Novorapid (fast-acting inulin)
- NPH (intermediate insulin)
- Glucophage (metformin)
- Synthroid (for hypothyroidism)
- Needles for insulin pens, diabetic testing strips, etc.
I would just like to get an idea of how much I’ll have to spend on my medication each month so I can sort out my budget.
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I’m getting blood work done for the first time (to be tested for mono). I don’t normally mind needles, but I’m a little worried because of the sensitive spot on my arm the needle will be going into. What is the normal process of a blood test (what exactly do they do)? How much does it hurt?

I need to get a blood test, and I am really weary about it.
I have never gotten one done before..
I am not afraid of the pain or the blood. But i am VERY afraid of needles, and I usually cry when I have to get a shot or anything to do with needles.
The doctor told me the blood test would not hurt if done right, and that she would give me two anxiety pills right before. What are some tips to help me relax? Will it hurt? Is it all that bad???

I’ve been seeing a doctor, but this has me puzzled. Started with numbness in face, tongue, pins in needles in portion of tongue, fingers, and bottoms of feet. Now heaviness in legs, pain in mid right back, headaches, and have been getting little sore throats. I sound like a nut, because none of this really seems to have anything to do with the other, but wonder if anyone has had similar experiences and what the diagnosis was? I have Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis… not sure these symptoms have anything to do with that though. Sigh.

For the the last few days I have been drinking alot and peeing alot. I used to go 3 times a day, now it’s like 5-6. I’m really worried! I’m 13 and yea I’m at risk of being overweight but I’m not obese. And I’m scared! For one I’m deathly afraid of needles. My mom made me use her glucosameter to test my blood and I had to hold my brothers hand I was so scared! But I overreacted. I was reading sites on teenage diabetes and my eyes welled up. Yea I’m a wuss. And I’m scared about the fact that I might be. Please help; do you think I am? It’s all Over my maternal family. My reading was only 99 though. My mom has hypoglycemia and I used her meter. I don’t want to inject myself with insulin. Am I alone? Or can anybody relate to me? Oh and can it effect your menstrual cycle???
