There’s LDL and HDL one is good one is bad. Do the meds lower the levels of both of them?
Does it work by lowering the bad cholesterol or raising the good?
I’ve never heard they’re not appropriate for women.

Im on meds that may or may not affect my liver and my blood sugar levels. However I pay for these meds and cannot afford to pay monthly labs. Ive seen on tv pee on a stick exams that may find you infections. Is there such test for liver or blood sugar level? What is an alternative?

I have type 2 diabetes. I am not on meds yet. How long do you have type 2 before you start seeing side effects? Like when do you have issues with your fingers and toes? I noticed my wounds take longer to heal. Do they ever heal??

I just began checking my glucose level after a morning fasting test showed it to be 200. I took the test to my doctor when my husband had an appointment. He said I need to be on meds but did not prescribe any. His nurse (on her own) gave me a meter and test strips. I have cut all sugars that I can think of from my diet, or that I know are turning to sugars, Now my readings range from the 150′s to 230′s. I did have a little mayo on a turkey sandwich (on Natures Own wheat bread) for lunch and a banana..about 4 hours ago, and now my reading is 228. I am going to make an appointment with him this coming week and take all my readings. I have back and knee problems so walking and exercize is difficult, but will that bring it down quickly? My ears ringing..is that diabetes as well? That has been going on for a long time now. I am a hundred pounds overweight. I cut out all soft drinks and sweet tea, virtually all salt and lost 23 pounds in about 5 months. That had to do with my weight, before I discovered I probably have diabetes. thanks!

i am having such a hard time with doctors. last feb i was sick and so i went to the doctor. thats when they told me i was type 2 diabetic. they put me on metformin and told me to change my diet and exercise more. no biggie. ever since that visit, i havent felt the same. i am sick ALL the time. i went to my doctor every couple of weeks. ive had tons of blood work done. the only thing they ever find in my blood work is a high white blood cell count that hasnt gone down. but they cant find the infection causing it. i have gone for a couple second opinions. i have gone to a couple women health doctors. i even saw a cancer doctor that tried to say i had leukemia. but all my tests came back good. one doctor after another and no one can find out why im always sick now. i keep getting every excuse for my symtoms. they say there from the diabetes.. the ONLY other medication i was even on was the depo birthconrol shot. i stopped that a year ago before the diabetes hoping to get pregnant for the first time. they say its stress.. work related.. and another one only lectured me on smoking. i understand smoking isnt good. but would smoking alone make me sick all the time.. cmon!! i had runs all the time. i felt bloated and nasty. i got horrible headaches. sick to my stomach. light headed and dizzy spells. low blood sugars every morning. i would even eat right before bed. i would wake up with 50′s and 60′s. i would feel really disoriented and drink orange juice or something loaded with carbs to wake up every morning. then the orange juice would bring my blood sugar up so quickly that i would get headaches. then it was an every morning ritual to take ibuprofin. i hated it. the doctor wouldnt change the meds or the doeses no matter how much i complained. i was told it will take time to get use to the meds and control the diabetes. so almost everyday it was like work bed work bed cause im always not feeling well to do anything else!!
out of fusteration, i have stopped taking all meds. for a month now. i have felt a TON better. all the stomach problems went away. i havent had any headaches. i started taking vitamins too. im not so tired anymore. i know it had to be the medication. but here is my problem now. i keep an eye on my blood sugar. but its going high now. i am trying the best i can i eat better and control it that way. but unless i eat greens 24/7 i cant. im seeing high 100′s in the mornings and mid afternoons. the highest has been 180. but on the plus side, im not going low at night. when i wake up its 90′s usually.
ugh!! i know i need to go back to the doctor or a doctor. but how do i get them to actually LISTEN to me. my insurance is terrible and i cant afford to keep jumping around doctor to doctor. im getting tired of them running tests i can not afford!!
has anyone else had this problem or can anyone offer any advice?

this really isnt a question. but its a way for me to vent and see if others out there are dealing with the same thing. im 24 and i found out im type 2 diabetic last feb. i was really sick when i found out and since have had many problems dealing with it. the doctors put me on meds and pretty much gave me the diet and exercise lecture. i didnt take them too seriously then. no one in my family is diabetic and none of my friends. i kept it to myself pretty much. but within the past several months many other health concerns came up. occasional high blood pressure and high cholesterol. i started to lose a little weight. but eventually put it back on plus a couple. within the past couple months i finally put my foot down and said i need to change my health or im going to kill myself at this rate. im not a kid anymore and i cant continue to gain weight and eat the way i do..
i am trying to hard to change my ways. but its hurting my relationship with my boyfriend. i dont have prescription coverage. so my meds and test strips are out of pocket. in order to eat better i have to spend a little more for lean meats and more veggies. even when we eat out it can be a little more expensive cause i have to make a lot of changes to the meals. places charge you extra to sub the fries or add a salad sorta thing. but my boyfriend doesnt see the entire picture. i have to do these things. he will go grocery shopping and buy hot dogs and chicken tenders and mac and cheese and wonder why i get so upset. he gets mad when im not making cookies and brownies. i cant have the junk food around me cause then i want to eat it. cant lose weight and manage blood sugar with all the wrong foods around me. he will still bring home pizzas and want to eat out all the time. it gets so frustrating. we have been dating 9 years. i love him alot. but i cant get him to understand how serious my health problems are. im not going to die if i eat an occasional slice of pizza or share a dessert. but i cant do it all the time. we have been trying to get pregnant for a year now as well. i keep having to tell him that i need to get my problems under control if we plan to have a healthy child.
i have to always educate people on the disease as well. i dont like to talk about it and make it center of attention. but its hard when im eating out and they switch my diet soda for a regular. or when i want to grab something quick and all these places seem to have is fried this and plain nothing exciting salads. i will go to friends houses and they will make excellent meals. but its hard to explain that sometimes i cant eat alot of what they make and it seems like they get offended. the other day a friend made the most excellent mexican food. tortillas, rice, beans, the works. i didnt turn the meal down. but ate very little of it. when she asked me why i wasnt eating, i had to explain the carbs and diabetes and there it was again. the long explanation of the do and donts of diabetes. many people just don’t understand that it isnt all about sugar. its the carbs as well.
ugh.. it can get frustrating. can anyone relate to me here without being mean and putting me down?
i couldnt agree more with what you both said and thank you.

I’m a Type 2 and not on any meds, but I have to make sure I eat before I take a shower because my blood sugar drops 30 points or so after a shower. I don’t use very hot water and I don’t think I scrub so vigorously that it could be counted as a form of exercise. Anyone else have this issue? I even told my Dr. about it and she kind of rolled her eyes and looked at me like I was making it up or just being a hypochondriac or something. It really happens, I’ve tested several times…
If you don’t know, will you check the next time you shower and get back to me. Thanks!!

I have not been diagnosed with pcos but I do not think I’m ovulating. I have been using over the counter ovulation test strips and I have not had one tell me I’m ovulating yet. My periods are every 52 to 56 days so I literally have no idea when or if I’m ovulating at all. I have heard that some woman are put on diabetic meds and special diets to help them ovulate. I would be ever so grateful if someone could give me the diet plan or any info that you may have in increasing chances of ovulation. I do need to lose weight but overall I’m in pretty good health. Plus I would also like for someone to share any success stories with me that had pcos and was able to conceive. We are all in this boat together and want the same little miracle. A baby ! Thank You so much for your help in this any info will be much appreciated. : )

Lately I’ve been having killer headaches. I’m taking metformin 3 times a day and I’m not sure if it’s safe taking them and the aspirin at the same time. Does it affect the performance of the metformin if I take aspirin daily?
If not what other ways can I relieve headaches while on these meds?

I am 25 and a T2 diabetic and my eyes have been burning for a week so last night I went to get some eye drops for dry eye. I picked up Theratears and I was wondering if this can cause a rise in blood sugar. My levels have been going high for some reason and right now it’s 238 from 200 this morning to 181 after I took my meds in the morning.

EMG results were no neuropathy but a pinched nerver in my L5 region. I am to continue Lyrica and the xodol (generic neurotin). ?!No other tests were taken. Could this be wrong? My left foot hurts so very bad. Have tingling and pain now in the other toes. Nov.14th is when I met my new doc. to get on diabetic meds.
I have know about my degenerative back for over 10 years now. My back symptoms are familiar to me, but this pattern of pain is not. Does this EMG rule without question? Does it rule out neuropathy for sure? Why should I take meds for described for it if it is not?
I have doubts this is the problem. Are there further blood tests, anything else to conform or disprove this diagnosis?

I am a diabetic and have in the past 2.5 years released 130 pounds through nutrition and exercise. I take no meds for diabetes per doctor’d orders in Dec 2009. Since Novemeber 2010 I have now released 12 additional pounds bt weighing and measuring my food. And consuming no sugar free products , fried food or alcohol.
follow up I went to the University ER 12/31 and I saw 3 doctors. Had a pelvic exam no masses found
I am to return Monday for an ultra sound ,Results of that will determine further action as necessary. A biopsy was taken on my cervix and 4 vitals of blood. No blood in bladder. There was some blood in cervix. I have passed pea size clots and stringy clots.
I had some abbormal pap smears in 2005. My OBGYN did freeze my cervix every other 3 mos she took a couple of biospes In August of 2006 my pap smears and biospies returned to normal. And it was thought that the abnormal cells were gone ! Perhaps they have returned. Not my way of starting the New Year ! At least however I can keep going on what ever the outcome. I enjoy life to much. Thanks Have a Healthy Happy New Year !
* I wanted to say they drew 4 vitals from my arm and found blood in the cervix
I have never taken hormone replacement .
The only thing that happened after menepause was that I now have stray eyebrows under my chin !
