I know it is a crazy question but I am very new to this. My son is 8 and just diagnosed a week ago. A friend from Africa who has traveled all over contacted me and said she had researched it before and found out that America is the only country that first resorts to medication and insulin, and that in some countries there were studies that some have been cured in 6 mos. Mind you this friend is all about natural remedies for everything, she does not believe in modern medicine. She gave birth to a child last year that died because she wanted to be at home and not a hospital. Anyway she is pushing me to watch some video that explains her thoughts. I was just wondering what do I tell her. Since I am new to this I do not really understand it enough to be able to respond.

If a patient had a 400 mg dose of over-the-counter ibuprofen 4 hours prior to a fasting blood test, how would it affect the outcome of the test? Would the water that was taken with the medicine affect it at all?

I am a diabetic. I was diagnosed when I was 18 and now I am 27. I was on medicine to begin with but now I am not. I was controling it with diet. In the past few months I have become very fatigued and always wanna sleep. I can not go without sleeping for 2 hours. My urine is always very dark in color and really sweet smelling. I have not been checking my blood sugar regularly because I have been preoccupied with school full time and work full time. Can this mean that my sugar has gotten out of hand. Oh yeah I have not been able to eat my 3 meals a day and no multi-vitamins are not working. If I do eat it may be one meal at 8pm or later. What does this mean. I was hoping I would not have to go to the doctor. The medicine is drag!! Please help!!

Normally i am very alert & try to stay as active as possible.
As posted i have been a class 2 diabetic for approx 6 years & am 65 years old.
And i am fairly sure my dozing problem is Diabetic related ?
I do for the most part keep my blood sugar count in check.
But like most diabetics am not perfect in this re-guard, but i do try my best.
When i work my computer or watch TV i get sleepy after approx 5 to 10 minutes ?
Does any one know of any over the counter medicine or even a simple every day Solution for my drowse problems ?
A RX prescription is not an option at the date.
Thank You.

I have a very bad cold and don’t know what "over the counter" medicine I can take that won’t interfere with coumadin (blood thinner) and insulin for diabetes.

I’m taking less medicine then usual, less activity, and eating the same amount of carbs at each meal that I’ve eaten for years and still I’m running low blood sugars. I"ve done a glucose control check on my meter and test strips and they are in range. Any ideas on what could be happening and ideas on what to do?

I am experiencing a loss of (or kind of like a blur and inability to focus my eye-site. ) . I have had a little bit of nausea( I think from drinking much ice tea and water at 5:30 am while at work.) Through up just water 2 or three mornings starting last Wednesday. I am also getting fatigued easily this last week. I work as a Cook and it is not a good time right now for this. I thought these "side effects " could be from taking a High blood pressure medicine called Licinaperil, because these effects and more were on the prescrption bag. I have been taking lisinoperl for over a month though. I also take a generic for zantec(heartburn) and lexapro. I was told after a blood test from my doctor that my blood sugar was high. This was after two bllod tests two weeks apart. He prescribed me METFORMIN HCL ER 500. That was almost two weeks ago and I did not get it until today. My father and I looked on web md and these were also side effects , and this makes more sense to use. Do you think this will take care of my symptoms. My doctor did not call me back today but I did leave him a note with my problems. I tested my blood sugar with test strips to day and it read like 330. I have always have had great vision. I am a little scared. Thank you

My doctor recently put me on avandia hoping to lower my blood sugar, because I hadn’t had a period in 2 months. My husband and I are trying to have a baby, and the doctor said we would try lowering my sugar, and then put my on a medicine called Byetta ( which is a insulin shot) to help. I have been on avandia now for exactly 5 weeks and started my period today. Avandia is known to causes ovulation… any advice? does anyone think this med. could have worked this fast and going to help me ovulate already?? has anyone been put on this med. before to help for ovulation? or periods? or mainly just to lower blood sugar?? any help would be appreciated!!

A doctor proclaiming to cure diabetes was asked at a convention: "How can you say there is a cure for diabetes?" He answered: "What do you call it when blood sugar levels are normal without taking any medicine?" (This is paraphrased) I’ve been racking my brain trying to remember who it was and I cannot. Please help. Thanks.
Yes, there are credible claims of "curing" (or reversing) diabetes. I’ve done it myself and educated around 100 people to (Successfully) do the same thing. I don’t believe in drugs. You don’t have diabetes because your body lacks Avandia, Glucophage, Glucotrol or any other drug that’s made in a lab.
Ok, I’m not here to debate what I already know. I just want to know the name of the doctor who gave that answer.
Orange, you apparently ARE uneducated. If what you’re trying to say holds, then we ALL have diabetes, cancer and every other nasty under the sun, only it’s managed. If you perceive me as talking down to you, perhaps you should come UP to my level.
gangadharan nair, you are correct in saying that. Many types of surgery DO correct the diabetic problem and it’s not really understood why. But it is one option. Personally, I don’t like that option because it involves opening up the body when there are other alternatives.

For my A-Level course I have to write a report on a problem in Biology that is being solved at the moment. Being interested in medicine, I chose Diabetes.
I have to talk about what Diabetes is, how it’s being solved and the alternative methods of solving it.
Thank you.
