Question concerning diabetic test strips?

My dad has cut his testing down to twice a week to save on his test strips since they are expensive for him. He was testing daily. Perhaps testing twice a week is sufficient. His doctor said it would be fine. His blood sugar stays pretty stable, but in the past, has had problems with it being too high. He has Medicare, AARP supplement insurance, and goes to the VA clinic for appts. Is there a way to get test strips at a reduced rate? I thought his insurance would pay for them or partially at least, but he is buying them himself. I am considering sending him some money to help pay on them, if the doctor says he ever needs to be checking it more often. So how safe is it that he is only checking twice a week? I’m not impressed with his doctor, so I hope he is being honest with my dad on testing twice a week asw being fine. Anyone with diabetes that could advise?

Is anyone else concerned over this intrusion? Medicare isn’t charity — I paid for the coverage, plus a monthly premium. And what’s to stop anyone from just making up test results? Is this just more of the same as the federal regulators ignoring risky banking practices and then punishing only the little banks who had the least to do with the debacle? Who’s in charge here, anyway?

Do you know of any close relative or friends that have been diagnosed with diabetes? If yes, please write how you have seen it affect their lives?

Do you believe that the current medication to treat diabetes is sufficient? If not what do you think should be done to treat/ cure diabetes?

In your opinion, are the current medications to treat diabetes (insulin) difficult or easy to obtain? Please consider financial problems as well as Medicare, and Medicaid fraud and how it has affected diabetics.

Do you believe trying to find the cure for diabetes can justify the use of stem cells?

If you were running the program, how would you save money?

Here are a couple of examples to consider:

1. Eliminate the middleman in claims processing. Have Medicare clams processed directly by HHS employees and not contract this business out to private insurance companies.

2. Stop the practice of paying outrageous rental fees for durable medical equipment like wheelchairs, feeding pumps, specialty to beds used in treating pressure sores, etc. Buy these items outright, and when the patient no longer needs them, transfer them to another patient.

What are your ideas?

Watching Wolf Blitzer.

Medicare paid 00 to rent a wheelchair for a patient? The same wheelchair could be bought outright for 0. Why do we want government involved? Why do we think prices will be going down if we get more government involved?

They can’t even come up with the money for Medicare and are having to make big cuts in coverage. And they want us to trust they won’t cut coverage when the whole nation is covered??? Medicare covers only a few million and they want us to believe that when 300 million are insured they won’t cut services?

How gullible do they think we all are? How gullible are you?

I work for a church ministry and I have not had social security or medicare withheld yet. Will this affect my taxes? If so, how?

I’m trying to confirm that my paycheck is being cut properly. I looked through the amounts being deducted for Fed tax, Social Security and Medicare, but I needed to know what percentage of each is supposed to be taken from the gross income. Also when the percentages are cut from the gross amount, is each amount taken individually from the whole? I hope this makes sense. Thank you in advance for your help.

My husband is of an age to retire, but doesn’t plan to do so in the next five or so years. We know that he should be eligible for medicare. Is it possible to have both medicare and his health insurance at work where the expense of his medical bills would be less or non existent?
