My brother has diabetes and needs to have medicine and glucose meter. He has no insurance and no job
I have heard that after you eat it takes the pancreas about 6 hours to finish cycling through the food you have just eaten. How true is this?
I did not mean cycle. More like process or job. It takes six hours for the pancreas to finish secreating the juices needed to fully digest food. Correct?
I’m stupid when it comes to insurance. Through my job I have BCBS health ins and I just got Dental. I am used to paying a co-pay with the Health Ins. I had some dental work done and asked if there was a co-pay to be settled while i was there. They said oh you mean the deductable. I paid that just wanting to take care of SOMETHING before I left. What is a deductable compared to a Co-pay?
ok so heres the deal
im a 22 year old female. im not overweight. I dont really excercise as much as I should but I work a job on my feet. I have had quite a bit of muscle soreness and random muscle pulling and knots on my body for a little over a year now. as well as foot soreness becuase i have flat feet.
I am ALWAYS thirsty and I drink alot of water. I probably dont drink anything more than 6 or 7 16 oz bottles of water a day but still. i find myself to always be thirsty and I pee ALOT.
last summer i had a strange ear infection that wasnt quite going away. so my doctor sent me to be tested for diabetes. the only test I had taken was the fasting glucose test. the results came back fine. no diabetes were detected
however. here i am. a year later and i still always feel thirsty all the time. ive been feeling thirsty all the time for YEARS NOW. i can drink a bottle of water and still be thirsty rite after. my mouth gets dry very easily and i always need water. sometimets ill start to feel sick if i dont have any water to drink.
diabetes doesnt run in my family. so thats a good thing
however ive read online that the fasting glucose test isnt always the best way to detect diabetes. and that taking a glucose tolerance test as well would be better at detecting it. im just worrying that i still have diabetes even tho the fasting test came back as negative and i realy want to take the glucose tolerance test just to be totally sure. would my primary care doctor have to refer me to take the test? or would i have to go to an endocrinologist?
I live in San Diego, CA. I’m a 54 year-old diabetic, insulin-dependent. I have been informed by the local county provider of medical services for the indigent (a degreed engineer, my job was sent overseas, and nothing is available around here except crummy telemarketing jobs) that I am no longer eligible to receive subsidized insulin (the best argument fo Marxian socialism!).
As insulin-necessity is an emergency, WILL I BE VIOLATING THE LAW IF I PHONE 911 THREE TIMES DAILY WHEN I NEED MY SHOTS? It would seem to be a legitimate emergency, as I will die without them. I am going to start doing that when my current supply runs dry in a few days. Don’t you love my nanny-state handout-mentality?!
I want to study what a nutritionist does, but the job of a dietitian is more appealing to me. Is it possible to study nutrition and then work in a clinic that helps people to improve their diets? (Like a Dietitian does). So to sum up can I do a job like this after studying Nutrition ?
Well I guess you would call me a 99′er. I got laid off in October of 08. I worked for a communication company that was bought out by a bigger company. I thought that maybe the bigger company would of offered me a job considering of my experience in the industry but that was a no go. I have spent the last two years getting a degree in science as well as my certification in phlebotomy. Unfortunately have not found a job in either. In my phlebotomy class one person was hired where we interned at and that one person was already employed by the hospital.(5% of the class got hired) Im 25 years old live in Nj and moved back in with my retired mom to save money when I was laid off. About 3/4 of my unemployment money go’s to insulin and testing supply since im type 1 diabetic. Since I no longer will be receiving unemployment I do not know what I should do. I am at the point where I might go down the the welfare office because i feel i have no other option. Any suggestions on what i should do?
Well i moved to georgia 8months ago and i do not qualify for medicaid or social security. i have found a free clinic that can help get me insulin but i need to know if there’s pump supply help i can qualify for? i am 20 yrs old, ive been diabetic for 3years. i have no job and i live with my mom who is on ssi….thank you in advance.
My cat is diagnosed with mild diabetes. I cannot afford insulin right now. He is very old, 17 or 18. What happens if he doesn’t start treatment right away? I have no idea how long he has been diabetic, he is showing no signs but is fat. Can it wait until I get a job (just lost my job) or should I give him up for adoption or something?
My 8 year old daughter is a Type 1 diabetic. She was diagnosed in Sept.2008.This year is a new year and we just started to figure out our budget. The problem is our insurance.
My insurance mandatory me to do the mail order for her insulin. And my insurance pays up to 00.00 and then i have to pay the next 00. out of my pocket before the insurance kicks back in and pays 80% up to 00. and then it goes back to paying 100%.So right now I get her medicine and supplies free untill we reach 00. and that will not be long. Then I have to pay the next 00. out of my pocket. That’s 0. a month i have to pay and we do not have it.We are broke now paying our bills and keeping healthy food in the house, gas in our car.And I can not get any financial help because we make to much money but all our money goes to bills (rent, groceries, electric, gas, phone,)As of Jan.1 2009-today the insurance company has paid 00.00 that means they have 00.00 left they will pay .Then I start paying out of my pocket and that will be 0.00 + more a month coming out of me ntil I reach 00. and then the insurance will pay 80%.
She needs her medicine to survive but how I am going to come up with a extra 0.00 a month. And finding a another job right now so I can work 2 jobs is out of the question with no one hiring and laying people off.I went to social services years ago to get assistance when me and my husband seperated and theyld not help me because I made to much money and now i make more then I did then but still not enough to pay for everything.Me and my husband are back together but with both ou incomes we do not have the money.I am going to try and apply for medicaid for just her and see if we can get it now since her condition is considered chronic disease. But with everyone applying for assistance right now because of the loss of jobs it might be a while before I hear anything. So What am I to do?
My step great-grandmother had a diabetic daughter who just recently passed away. Her daughter started out hypoglycemic as a child at a very young age. Similar to her, I was born with hypoglycemia, gluten-intolerance, and have developed a lactose-intolerance. Around thanksgiving last year, I talked to my step-great-grandmother about not really wanting a child anytime soon. She advised me carrying a baby could be hard on my health, and could cause me to permanently become diabetic (not just gestational). I’m already constantly hungry.
My husband and I have been contemplating having a child sometime in the next 2-5 years. I know my diet would be extremely good for the child. I consume no sugar whatsoever (or sweeteners). I eat plenty of produce, take multivitamins, calcium citrate, etc. Due to my chemical sensitivities I use chemically free personal care products and household cleaners.
One thing I am quite concerned about is my consant hunger. On a normal basis I’m very hungry ever 1-1/2 to 3 hours (3-1/2 if I’m really lucky). Eating a chicken breast and veggies until my stomach hurts… literally lasts me about 45 minutes at the most. My body digests food quite quickly. Because of my constant need to eat… I’ve often missed classes, and even lost my job because of my constant need to eat. I can get very sick very fast as soon as I get hungry. If I go too long it feels like I’m on a boat, my pupils dialate, feel near fainting, can’t think straight…. Nonetheless it puts me on a rollercoaster thats only relieved by eating.
I’m 22 years old.
I know I should ask a Doctor, but I’m curious to see if anyone has experienced something similar.
To answer GlutenFreeGirl: My doctor found both of them based on my diet and reactions to certain foods. I never bothered getting the test because the end result is the same. As she said to never eat gluten again, and claimed I was having problems digesting the milk sugars. As far as my diet, I eat my required amount of protien, fats, calories, etc. I’m very picky about what I eat, in what orders, etc. I also take 1000mg of calcium citrate everyday, along with a multivitamin, potassium citrate, and magnesium citrate. Diabetes really runs in my family… In fact, my 10 year old cousin already has it. My blood great-grandmother was lucky in that she developed it later in life.
Answer to GlutenFreeGirl: I forgot to mention about the sugars. Unfortunately my body cannot handle honey. I can take agave in small amounts, and some ready-made-products sweetened with fruit juice. For me, sugar could literally be deadly. If I accidentally ingest some it feels like torture. I’ve read stories of a girl who wouldn’t change her diet and ended up dieing at only 26 years old. If I don’t eat my regular breakfast every morning… The room will spin so hard I can’t walk without stumbling around (as if I’m walking on a heavily moving boat).
At the moment I am still on my parents Insurance since Im a College Student. But my boyfriend and I have been discussing Marriage (and not as in years away). And Since I’m type 1 diabetic Im always concerned about my health coverage-not to mention my mother is a complete control freak so I know nothing about how to order my medical supplies, if i can do it online or anything like that. I don’t even know what to say when im at a doctors office and their asking me questions- I pretty much mumble and act like a moron because i have no idea what forms their talking about. So i really hate going ha ha..anyway So with the economy so bad my job doesn’t offer good enough health coverage for me to use and if we get married I wont be on my parents anymore- so then I would be on his? but the thing is, were also planning to move to another state right after-or soon after were married…so then we wouldn’t be covered because he wouldn’t have that job during that time…I mean I guess technically I don’t need to have insurance 24/7 I could just make sure i have enough supplies for the time in between-get new insurance like the state insurance that we live in.. i know they have PA insurance so the state were moving to would have insurance too right? And I would only be off insurance for maybe a few days and then we could sign up for the new insurance while im making appointments with new doctors..But also (sorry I just am so confused) I know that on some insurances you can only go to certain doctors, how do you know which ones? And can they ever not give me insurance because im diabetic? I remember hearing something about a pre existing problem. I would really appreciate any help.
I AM ABOUT TO LOSE PHARMACY BENEFITS FROM THE GOVERNMENT BECAUSE THEY SAY I MAKE TO MUCH MONEY. USING MY GROSS INCOME. I AM A SINGLE MOTHER AND TAKE 10 DIFFERENT MEDICINES A DAY. MOST OF THEM ARE TO CONTROL AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES. ONCE I LOSE THIS HELP I WON’T BE ABLE TO MAKE IT. I AM A DIABETIC AND IF ANYONE READING THIS IS ONE KNOWS THE SUPPLIES AREN’T CHEAP. SO IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME FIND HELP WITH SOME KIND OF MEDICAL ASSISTANCE THAT DOESN’T SAY FOR THE UNINSURED ( I CAN’T AFFORD THE CO-PAYS) PLEASE LET ME KNOW I AM LOSING SLEEP AND READY TO QUIT MY JOB JUST SO THAT I CAN KEEP MY PHARMACY BENEFITS.
I’m diabetic, type 1….is it possible to get SSI income? I have no job, and no health insurance, and need insulin and other medical supplies. I tried everything my doctor said, he doesn’t have samples because he doesn’t "specialize" in diabetes care, he said to try to get SSI checks, as that can help me with medicine??
