hi Im trying to find out what the cost of insulin is per unit, or per ten units. humalog or novalog.
Im just trying to figure out what it costs daily to live with diabetes, so any other diabetic supply breakdowns would be great, I.E test strips, lancets, ect
thanks!

I recently lost my insurance and job, and have become financially strapped. I have signed up for the various programs available to get my Humalog/Novalog and Lantus insulin free, but it will be at least 4-6 weeks before they take effect, and my supplies are low now. I’m also in need of test strips, which are quite expensive. I’m looking for a resource that may be able to provide me these in the short term. I know many doctors get sample vials as my old DR used to provide them to me sometimes, and I’m hoping perhaps I can find such a source now. Help is much appreciated. Buffalo NY area specifically.
I’ve already contacted the drug company programs for free meds, but their process will take at least 4 weeks and my need is more immediate.

Just another bloated bureaucracy, or part of Obama’s scheme to drive everyone to private insurance?

How much does a blood test cost to detect pregnancy if I don’t have insurance? Does planned parenthood offer blood tests and how much do they cost there?

Okay. I finally got insurance after being told by the health department that I’m diabetic. I’ve been paying for my strips out-of-pocket (which is NOT easy) To bypass the "pre-existing condition" problem and get my insurance to pay for my strips, I went to see my new doctor to get a full work-up and to test for diabetes. I passed the fasting with an 87, the GTT with 140 at one hour and 117 at 2 hours. I’ve also had an A1c done, I’m still waiting on those results, but my sugars have been well controlled for quite some time now. I’m very frustrated! Does this mean I don’t have diabetes? Can I go back to the days where I didn’t have to really watch what I ate? Can this be a by-product of good control? What’s going on here? Should I return to my old diet and exercise routine and get re-tested? Help!!

Due to a change in my insurance plan, I will have either have to pay a lot more for my test strips and other suppliers or get a new blood glucose meter. I have decided to get a new meter.
Does anyone accept old meters so that they can be distributed to others who can not afford a meter or for some other purpose? My meters are relatively current models – One Touch Ultra series.
After recieving the first four answers, I was a bit disappointed. There are people all over the world who have diabetes and who can not access the so called "free" meters from the manufacturers. I am looking for an organization who accepts used meters and who has the resources to distribute them as well as the supplies that are needed to use the meters. For anyone who say a used meter is useless, please open up your mind to all the possibilities……….

My husband has Type 1 diabetes and will need to go on a personal health insurance plan. The ones we found are an outrageous expense. Does anyone know of a good company that supports type 1 diabetics?

I am thinking of becoming self-employed, and have heard that if one is on injectable insulin, it is impossible to get health insurance. Is this right?

im 18 and im a type 1 diabetic. my parents tell me as long as im still in school, the insurance will pay for everything.
my problem with this is that i dont really believe it. i see it as a way for my parents to force me to go to college, which i had planned to do, but on my own time and terms.
also, can someone tell me what i would have to pay when im on my own, with an average insurance policy? i use ~30 units of novolog, ~42 of lantus , and ~5 test strips daily

I was checked at 16 weeks and didn’t have it. I was checked at 28 weeks at was at 106 so i didn’t have it. then they checked me again at 32 weeks. I was 145. so not to much over the limit. I was never given the 3 hour test but I think I should have been. I have been put on the diabetic diet and given a meter to check my blood sugar. I was really good about my diet for a few days then I had a family issue. needless to say I had to eat what was provided. my blood sugar was fine! I tried the next day not portioning out any of my meals, still eating healthy but not using portions. my blood sugar was still fine. today for lunch I had Kraft Mac and cheese… again still fine. can I ask for the 3 hour test? will my insurance still pay for it if I ask for it? after explaining myself to the doctor do you think there is a reason for him to tell me I cant have it?
I am only 34 weeks and my baby is already 7 pounds 5 oz as of last wednesday. that is why I was tested at 32 weeks. I dont know why but everyone in my dr. office gets tested at 16 and 28 weeks
due July 9th~ Gestational Diabetes is diabetes only when pregnant. I am sorry for your friend but she has regular diabetes. not gestational. mine will go away once I give birth.

My dr suggested I begin Byetta injections (2 a day) for Insulin Resistance and symptoms of PCOS. I am concerned because I have no insurance and she didn’t mention how much the injections cost, other than to say she had some free samples I could use. The samples won’t last forever!
Does anyone know how much they cost?
