I have been a diabetic for 17 years & have been on 2 shots a day of insulin, it seems like I am becoming insulin resistant & was wondering if I can add a prescription diabetic pill to the shots ?
has anyone done this & what is the name of the pill ? How did it work for you ?
Thanks a head of time.

I have found a bottle of insulin behind some salad dressing in my frig. It expired in 05. I am strapped for cash right now and I need some insulin. I want to know if it will hurt me or will it do any good if I use it?

With great sadness we recently decided to euthanize our 15 year old diabetic kittie when she came down with diabetic ketoacidosis and deteriorated very quickly. She had been on insulin for about a year. Everything seemed fine, then she stopped eating and was gone two days later. I talked to the vet during the ordeal and have looked unsuccessfully for a medical description of how this progression occurs. It won’t help us now, but I am just trying to make sense of what happened.

My cat was just diagnosed with diabetes. I’m also diabetic and test my sugar level throughout the day using a glucometer. I haven’t spoken with the vet yet, but does anyone know if you can even test a cat’s sugar by yourself without having to go/pay for the vet?
The insulin is really expensive and I’m trying to do the best that I can. Visiting the vet every few weeks is something that I just can’t afford, no matter how much I’d love to. Is this the only way to tell if the insulin is the correct amount? How would you even know if it was making the cat hypoglycemic? Thank you.

My partner and I have a decades project and chose the topic of Insulin and its discovery.
Basically we have to create a multimedia to present to the class, but really don’t know where to start.
Ideas?

I’m flying for the first time at the end of march just from Philly to Orlando. I use Humolog Pens and Test my sugar I also will need to take my Lantus Vile with me but can pack that in my suitcase, I will not need to carry that with me, only my Humolog Pen, 2 Pen Needles,And my monitor with strips and poker (which again has a needle). My question is, what are the rule for this sort of stuff? Will I be able to take in on with my in my purse? Can you even take a purse on a plane? Just wondering if anyone can help. I’ll prob only need to check my sugar once and maybe give myself insulin once. Also would I be able to sneak a snack or juice pouch on with me incase my sugar goes low? I’m also pregnant, just 2 months so my sugars are still a little wacky and can go low without me knowing. Any answers/suggestions? Thanks!

Explain how scientists use recombinant DNA technology to produce the drug insulin. Also, please explain why one organism can be expressed by another organism.
This is my own question.

I gave my cat his insulin two hours ago (after he ate) and he is coughing. Why is this?
Thought I would add more details. He has been diabetic for two years and has been on PZI. He is overweight. He doesn’t cough everday but today he coughed more. He was just at the vet and she said he is in good health except for having diabetes and he has some tartar on his teeth but its not so much that he needs treatment. He has been eating and drinking as usual and not hiding.

my cat is diabetic and i need to be able to test her blood sugar at home with a glucose meter. i’ve tried using the lancets to draw the blood, but with her fur and tough skin i can’t get enough blood to test it. is it safe to use one of the syringes for her insulin to withdraw blood so i can put it on the test strip?? i’m worried that withdrawing the blood through the syringe will somehow let air into her bloodstream, which is dangerous, or that it will affect the test results
i’ve already posted in pets, just wanted to see if any diabetics had any advice

I am thinking of becoming self-employed, and have heard that if one is on injectable insulin, it is impossible to get health insurance. Is this right?

For the past few days, my blood sugars have been running pretty high (almost always above 200). I also just got out a new Novolog pen the other day cause my old one ran out. I’m not really sure why my numbers have been running so high. This past dinner, my pre-dinner blood sugar was 258, so I injected 3 units to bring my number down in addition to the 4 units that I injected for my 80 or so carbs (I’m on a 1:20 ratio). And now 4 hours later, my blood sugar is 337. It’s not a problem with my test strips. So I am wondering if it is possible that my insulin has a problem with it. It has been refrigerated and kept as it is supposed to be so I don’t think anything is really wrong because of that. I’m wondering if there could have been a problem at the factory. The other thing I think it may be is that my honeymoon phase might be ending. I’ve been diabetic for about 8 months now so I’m due for it to end any day now. I just don’t know how drastic the blood sugar changes should be. My numbers have all been great lately (below 130) for the past month, so I’m a little shocked by this recent spike. Please help.
It’s definitely not air bubbles. Never really have a problem with that.
I’m out of ketostix so I’ll go pick some up tomorrow. :/
How much of a change is it when your honeymoon ends? Is it pretty large and quick?
