I just found out I’m hypoglycemic, can anyone give me normal sugar levels. I need to know what is too low before I eat and after I eat. I also need to know what is too high. Thanks!!
Rinita- That wasn’t my question. My hypoglycemia has been proven. My question is what the normal levels are..

I think I might have hyperinsulinemia. I have hypoglycemia also. I have a glucose meter and I was wondering if there is such thing as an insulin meter too? Thanks.

I’m always dizzy if I don’t eat every 2-3-4 hours.
My endocrinologist diagnosed me with hypoglycemia, and he gave me a glucometer.
However when I test my blood sugar, it’s normal.
Even if I’m really dizzy.
What’s wrong with me :(

Question about snoring and sleeping?

So I herd recently that snoring is a sign of diabetes or hypertension and sleep apnea. And my boyfriend only snores when he’s really tired of if we sleep most the night spooning. He has hypoglycemia bc we test his blood with my sister meter occasionally and my sister is a diabetic and used to snore so loud until she was diagnosed and started insulin.
I’m just wondering if we should go to the doctor.I take his blood pressure sometimes and its usually in the norm. So I’m scared its diabetes? What should we do because he’s not worried about it.

Hypoglycemia with Avandia?

My doctor has put me on Avandia and Glucophage. Several years ago I was on Glucophage, and it never caused me hypoglycemia.
Now, I am going back on Glucophage with Avandia; Are there any risks for hypoglycemia? If so, how long will the incident last? I mean if the med is in your system, how do you treat the hypoglcemia.
Any other ideas or advice will be most appreciated as well.

Let me try to explain what is happening to me. I keep getting hypoglycemia even thought I’m not diabetic.

It happens 2 ways, one…sometimes despite eating a 500 calorie balanced non sugary meal within the hour of working out, I get hypo during my routine daily 30 minute cardio workout. I have had some success in countering this by eating a banana 10 mins before I begin working out, but still I feel it’s not normal I have to do this.

The other way is at some point a couple hours after a meal I will start feeling lightheaded/weird and get a pounding heart and very anxious…this is the other way I get it. Then it seems even if I eat my sugar only stays up briefly as I’ve checked serially with many glucose test strips, I have never seen my sugar rise above 115 or so unless I drink a TON of soda or something like that, and even then it’s back down in the 80′s really quick. Again I used a box of nearly 50 test strips in a day to watch just what was going on at 15 minute intervals.

At the doctor I’ve had metabolic panels, a CT scan of my abdomen to look at my pancreas… nothing is seen. Any ideas?
1 thing to point out is that with over night fasts, I am never hypoglycemic, it’s almost always in the 80′s when I wake up
sorry but these answers are stupid so far, anyone else?

Glucose meter for hypoglycemia?

I saw my primary care physician because I have been having several problems-weight loss and the inability to gain/maintain weight, fatigue, cuts and bruises that do not heal and sensitivity to sugar. Everything except the sensitivity to sugar has been an ongoing problem for about a year and a half. The fatigue has worsened and the sensitivity to sugar developed about 7 weeks ago. My doctor ordered a number of tests to rule out thryoid problems, anemia, liver problems, and diabetes. The only test so far to come back abnormal was the 3 hour glucose test and the results were 74 (fasting), 47 (at 1 hour), 51 (at 2 hours) and 57 (at 3 hours). I seem to have more problems about an hour after I eat than if I haven’t eaten in a long time but I have them then too. They include headache, dizziness, weakness, lack of coordination, and confusion (similar to being drunk). My doctor referred me to an endocrinologist who asked a few questions and had me by a glucose meter to test myself for 3 weeks.
I also feel constant pressure in my upper abdomen and eating (regardless of what it is that I eat) causes abdominal distention but that resolves after several hours. I would not consider any of this "pain" however so the endocrinologist does not think that there is any problem at all. He said "I really don’t think that there is anything wrong with you". I have a very hard time at work when these days because at least once a day I have an episode like this where I basically feel like I am drunk, so I don’t know what the problem is but there is definitely a problem and my doctor agrees. What should I do? The pharmacist said that glucose meters really aren’t useful for testing for hypoglycemia because the aren’t very accurate below the level of the low hundreds. I bought one anyway but I think the endocrinologist just isn’t taking me seriously. Suggestions?

Im hypoglycemic now what can I eat?

Im so confused the doc said just to make sure Im eating proteins with my carbs……then gives me a paper that tells me whenI have certain symptoms dink juice or hard candy. I read up and understand the protein thing I think, but it seems like a lose lose situation. I dont get enough sugar yet I should eat sugar because then my body will over produce insulin and my sugar will drop dangerously low. SO can I have a stinkin glass of juice or not? I hate this its so depressing – mainly because its so confusing. I go to my endocrinoligst (whom I have for thyroid soon) but my fam doc did the test and I feel so uninformed…..and everythign I read sounds so scary I have fasting hypoglycemia my level was 39.
Well the hardest part is I dont get symptoms even then I felt fine I dont even feel hungry in the morning and since I cant eat before or after my thyroid med I usually just dont eat till brunch sometimes lunch or when I get hungry but I dont get hungry in the morning….sometimes I eat a small meal before bed so Im sure that contributes but even when I dont Im just not a morning eater and now I have to force feed myself Im guessing. The reason I was tested is because after I eat lunch in the afternoon I often crash hard and just want to sleep a few hours later Im fine. Other than that fatigue I have no symptoms – even at the 39 I felt fine?!
that last website was about excercise and weight loss – Im thin and excercise 5 days a week…..:(

I seem to be in the pre-diabetes range. My father had it. Here’s the thing, first, I am 36, I eat very healthy, I excercise very regularly, my cholesterol is low, as is my blood pressure, my tryglicerides are low, my HDL is a little on the low side but I don’t understand how I can have this….and I don’t know if it could be type 1 possibly…My father had Type 2 but he was in his 40′s when he developed it. My fasting blood sugar seems to be going up rapidly. None of my medications cause an increase in blood surgar…since I was a child I have had a problem with hypoglycemia but if I eat a proper snack I’m okay. I was curious if there is any way to tell which one I am likely to have and from what I’ve read usually you have to have high cholesterol and high tryglicerides and high blood pressure which I don’t have.
In answer to Jade’s question: My blood sugar was checked a couple of times last year and it was just under 100. I’m only referring to fasting levels by the way. My sister in-law got me a meter to test and mainly we thought we would use it to monitor when it was dropping- which since I’ve been eating better snacks I haven’t had a problem with…so when I’ve done the fasting test it’s been from 106 to 126 which is pre, and I’ve done more than one. I did one test that was random and I believe it was normal and there was no fasting with it- I am assuming it was normal because I don’t know what it is supposed to be when you aren’t fasting. I had probably eaten 4 hours prior to that one give or take and it was 126. I have gotten blood and urine tests for diabetes quite often since childhood because of various symptoms even though, no one had diabetes in the family until my father was in his 40′s. He thought perhaps his father may have had it.

Hypoglycemia?

I’ve been having major problems w/my blood sugar. If I don’t eat between 2-3 hrs after my last meal, my blood sugar drops dramatically. My father-i-law, being diabetic, tested me one day and my blood sugar count was 29. My grandfather, also diabetic, tested me 3 weeks later, and it was 34. I went to the doctor right after breakfast, and they tested my blood sugar. It was 103. I get convulsion like shakes, blurred vision, i break down and cry if it gets really low, and on occassion when its down that low I get extremely sleepy and weak. The doctor said its just a high metabolism and for me to eat more. But, if I do that, I’ll be eating all day long!!! I already eat 6-8 small meals a day! I had labwork done 3 days ago, and all came back normal. No diabetes, hypoglycemia, anemia, nothing. So, after following doctor’s orders and adding a pre-natal vitamin to my diet, I’m still getting the shakes, headaches, and blurred vision. How can you be positive that you don’t have hypoglycemia?
I went to the doctor on a full stomach, that was when my blood sugar tested at 103. I’m not currently on any meds. None. The doctor suggested that I just have a high metabolism, but I’ve tried doing what she suggested (juice in the morning as soon as I get up, 5-6 small meals throughout the day, taking a prenatal vitamin) and nothing has helped. I was having blurred vision all day, along with shakiness, irritability. I ate a Hershey’s Chocolate bar, and it all went away. I went back today to get my lab results, & the nurse DID ask me if I’m testing my sugar in the morning. I said no, I don’t have one of those things to test it with, he says, "She didn’t give you one?" Looks at my chart and says, "Oh, ok." I’m just so confused about what’s happening with me! So, I’m guessing my question is if I went to the doctor on a full stomach, is it possible that they were not able to find hypoglycemia? Or is it always there & there’s no way to overlook it? Hypoglycemia or high metabolism??

Should I get a glucose meter?

I am 16 years old almost 17. I have episodes that cause me to black out, feel like Im about to throw up, almost pass out. I’m thinking about getting a glucose meter to test my sugar level. Should I? I freak my parents out. More my dad than my mom. I think I have hypoglycemia. But I have yet to be diagnosed. I’ve learned to eat food when I feel my sugar getting low.
I will tell my parents to take me to the doc. To see what I have. Thanks

OK, so i know hypoglycemia is low blood sugar and something about not being able to turn glucose into glycogen, but why can’t it? and what does insulin have to do with it? whats the best way to manage not fainting if you do have it?

Can eating relieve symptoms of hyperglycemia?

While I’m waiting for the results of my blood tests to come back, I thought I’d look for more info. I have some classic symptoms of diabetes (excessive thirst and urination, fatigue). But it seems that I keep having trouble keeping my blood sugar *high* enough. I wake up shaky or shaking, but it calms down once I eat. This happens during the day too.
Can hyperglycemia still cause symptoms like that? Or can an undiagnosed/uncontrolled diabetic have episodes of hypoglycemia (as it’s my understanding that it’s generally high blood sugar that’s the problem)?
For reference, I’m a 22 year old female who falls in the "underweight" range (so Type II is quite a bit less likely).
Thank you for the responses. I do know the difference between low and high blood sugar. That’s why I was confused. And I have seen my doctor. I go back this week for the test results/follow up; I’m just looking for info in the meantime.

For a while, I have been very hungry between meals; to the point of not being able to concentrate. I get headaches, varying in intensity, and I feel weak. Do I have hypoglycemia?
Could it be anemia? *my mom has iron deficiency anemia

I don’t want to say anything before I’m more informed if I actually have something, because I don’t want to seem like a hypochondriac.
I will choose a best answer.
