You need to make a solution of glucose. You need 0.5 L of a solution containing 1 mole per liter. You know that glucose weighs 180 grams per mole. How much glucose should you weight out?

is there something wrong with my hamsty? help?

so i just used the keto-diastyx strips to test my hamster’s glucose and ketone levels. he does not exhibit any symptoms of a diabetic hamster, but i checked anyways just to be sure and also cuz i saw ants in his cage…i know that a diabetic’s pee can attract ants.

he tested negative for glucose (whew!)….so i guess i just gotta clean his cage D= which i will do right now ofc.
but anyways, according to the strip, looks like he has a small amount of ketones (maybe even kinda moderate?), why does this happen? should i be concerned? he doesn’t drink water excessively… i had a diabetic ham before, and this one doesn’t act/look like that.

I have a grade 11 Biology assignment, where me and my group have to figure out if indeed yeast breaks down glucose to produce ethanol and carbon dioxide. I just need to know how to prove this in an experiment.

This is the same ingredient that is used in commercial toothpaste that supposedly prevents cavities. So, my question is, if sodium fluoride can preserve glucose for up to three days, then can’t it also hold sugar on your teeth? Isn’t sugar what causes cavities?

the average range is 60-99 mg/dL. Is it possible to spike glucose up to 140+mg/dL if you drank a bottle of snapple Ice Tea 45 minutes before getting your blood drawn?

cellulose is very difficult to break down. What accounts for this difference?
1. The way the glucose subunits are linked
differs.
2. The size of the glucose subunits differs.
3. The type of glucose subunits differ.
4. The number of glucose subunits differs.
5. The shape of the glucose subunits dif-
fers.

Pre Diabetic suspect?

I have seizures from a head injury. they got Bad this last june without warning. some have happened to happen after eating recently. Today I had a tester handy and tested at 137 and began to have seizures. ive been testing at 90 to just over 100 this week. I also hadnt eatin anything other then some chicken nuggets and didnt even want to eat that. Im always thersty and always having to pee even tho I Deny my self water due to the excessive urination Id never get any sleep.

I used a tester several years ago when I was having black outs directly related to sugar. I was testing then in the 50 to simply LO range. I do control my diet ever since then. The issue went away for the most part until now.

137 shouldnt cause me to seize-but it is.

I dated a diabetic once who liked to drink and do stupid s… So I learned real quick how to use the tester, insalin on him, and glucose tabs. So Im no idiot. I use a brand new one touch tester i program to every new set of strips.

so what are ideas here? Im thinking for Me thats High because of the seizures frequently happening after eating Anything now-and im not a junk food person or candy person.

In biology we tested food products for macromolecules. I tested uncooked white rice, which showed as having starch but it showed no traces of glucose. I know starch is made of huge strings of glucose, so did I make an error during the lab process? Or does the glucose making the starch not show until digestion?

Thanks

I’m sure my hamster as diabetes. She drinks excesivley, is loosing weight despite the fact her appetite has increased, is less active than normal and her eye sight does not seem to be as good as it use to be. However I used the Keto-Diastix reagent strips using her urine and both the Keytones and Glucose are Negative. Does this mean her body isn’t producing any sugar? So should i feed her a sugar diet? Any suggestions on what type of diet to feed her? Thank you!

a. The pituitary gland produces antidiuretic hormone (ADH), which stimulates the kidneys to break down glycogen into glucose and release it into the blood.
b. The thyroid gland produces thyroxine, which stimulates the metabolic rate so that more glycogen is broken into glucose and released in the blood.
c. The pancreas produces glucagon, which stimulates the liver to break down glycogen into glucose and release it into the blood.

Wildly varying readings on a plasma glucose meter?

Recently switched from a whole-blood meter to a plasma meter, and it’s driving me nuts.

I understand that plasma readings are about 15% higher than whole-blood readings, so I’m not freaked out by the higher readings.

But is it normal for plasma meters to give results as much as 15 points different on subsequent tests?

For instance, I can test 2 hr post-prandial and have a reading of 120, test again two minutes later, and have a reading of 105. I KNOW my glucose isn’t dropping that quickly, and it’s not making me very confident in the accuracy of this meter.
I should add that the meter has the right code chip for the test strips; that I did test using the test solution and received appropriate results, and that I always test my blood at standard room temperature with clean, dry hands.
Thanks, Anita. Neither of my previous meters ever showed more than 1-2 points variation on retests, so it seemed unusual to me. But I guess this one just has a wider margin of error.

The 15-point difference isn’t that great in the grand scheme of things, but since I try very hard to keep tight control, it does throw me off somewhat.
