Diabetes "expert" advice needed?

I had blood work done lad week. I hadn’t eaten in 14 hours or drank anything either before I had my blood work done. My serum glucose number was 139 and my A1C was 6.1%. My doc didn’t seem too concerned, but all my web history has me very worried. My mom is pre diabetic, and I have using her meter to prick my finger on a regular basis. My levels come back any where from 74 up to 147 right after I eat, but nothing higher than that. Levels are normal with the glucose meter, but blood work was elevated. I’m confused. Do I have diabetes or not?

I’ve just went to Longs for health screeing, I was suprised that my HBA1c = 6.2 (<6 for non diabetic) but my glucose was normal (81). I had an "one touch ultrasmart" glucose meter and I somestimes used it and the level have always been normal. I ran the glucose tests at home everyday after that (3 days) and also came back to have them check glucose level one more time and it is still normal. However, I am still worried sick because that that HBA1c that I should not take. Could someone please help me to explain my situation. Thank you very much.

Normal Blood Glucose reading?

What is the normal blood glucose reading for a non diabetic for fasting/after 2 hours of eating/morning check up? I am 21 years old. I heard less then 120 is the normal range but I got confused about when others said its 140 and lower .

Also I have a Relion: Confirm glucose meter from Walmart, on the Test Strip Bottle it says (assuming its on other brands as well) :

Control Solution Range-
L: 31-58 MG/dL
N: 106-177 MG/dL
H: 289-482 MG/dL

What does these numbers mean? I almost always score in the 140-155Mg range after 2 hours of eating. But after eater not eating for a about 5 hours my reading goes down to the 90s. According to this guide, does it mean my blood sugar is normal? I am not diagnosed with Diabetes. Nor I feel like going to the doctor.

Which meters are better: Freestyle or Accu chek?

I am in need of a new meter, and I need two: one for home/regular and one for school. I am taking pricing and everything into consideration.

I have decided to either get the Freestyle Lite or the Accu Chek Compact Plus (black). And I don’t know which to get!

Which one (do you think) is more accurate? My current meter, the Freestyle Flash, wasn’t accurate at times, and I have no experience with the Accu Chek so I don’t really know.
The Compact Plus is a little old, but how are those drums that it uses?
THe freestyle lite is the most updated one thus far, but it doesn’t mean it’s the best one out there.
I especially like how the accu chek is an all in one thing and looks really easy to use, but I heard it requires a larger blood sample than the Freestyle Lite.
Also, I like the backlight on the Freestyle Lite, but the LCD screen on the Accu check seems cool enough and easy to use in the dark without a light.
I don’t know about the lancing devices either.
Cost also matters. Which one will be more expensive? In the long run including strips and lancets or drums?

Is anyone expert on these types of things? I need help choosing a good glucose meter! I’m a Type I diabetic.

Question about diabetes and cats?

my cat is diabetic and i need to be able to test her blood sugar at home with a glucose meter. i’ve tried using the lancets to draw the blood, but with her fur and tough skin i can’t get enough blood to test it. is it safe to use one of the syringes for her insulin to withdraw blood so i can put it on the test strip?? i’m worried that withdrawing the blood through the syringe will somehow let air into her bloodstream, which is dangerous, or that it will affect the test results

i’ve already posted in pets, just wanted to see if any diabetics had any advice

So I have been paranoid. My hands and feet have been having tingling feelings and I had this leg cramp once at night.

This isn’t usual for me. So I looked up the symptoms of diabetes and some of them were included.

So I was wondering, I live near a Rite Aid store. I was wondering if I should buy a glucose meter to see if I have diabetes or not. I would wanna go to a doctor for real confirmation but I don’t want my parents to think I’m being too paranoid. I wanna make sure first.

Recommendations?

I keep running out of needles for the my glucose meter. Should I just reuse my needles for multiple sugar checks?
I was told to check 4 times a day and that makes them run out quickly.

Hypoglycemia and using a glucose meter?

Hypoglycemia tends to run in my family and I’ve suspected that I was hypoglycemic since I was really young, but no one has ever bothered to test me for it, chalking up all my symptoms to things like PMS and whatnot. Anyway, I took an online assessment (I know, it’s not the same as a doctor’s diagnosis, but it turned out how I thought it would) and it placed me at a really high risk (like 85% or so) and it said that a score of 20 or above was higher risk…mine was like 115 or so. Would it be a good idea to have a glucose meter or would it be pointless? Also, I’ve heard that if you’re hypoglycemic it puts you at a higher risk for diabetes. Is that true? How long would it take to turn into diabetes (on average, if it ever happens)? Thanks!
And here’s the link to that test I took: http://www.hypoglycemia.org/hypo_test.asp
No no one in my family has invested in one, that I know of. They have a doctor tell them that they are most likely hypoglycemic and then they ignore it like it will go away if they pretend they didn’t hear it or something. My family consists of many very stubborn people who believe that God will not allow anything bad to happen to you, etc. Yes I do feel better after eating.

If your blood sugar was low and you drank a soda, would it raise it or effect your level if it was tested shortly after consuming the soda (like 30 minutes to an hour)?

A nurse asked me if I was hypoglycemic one time when she met me. She figured that I was either hypoglycemic or anemic and I’m not anemic (I’ve been tested a few times, especially when I was pregnant). I’m not sure how the two would be related as far as symptoms goes. I don’t know much about anemia. Thanks for the answers so far!

I noticed the glucose meter has a little battery installed in the meter and wonder if I can put the brand-new meter (in unopened box) in my check-in luggage. I heard any battery should be excluded from the check-in baggage but don’t know if the new glucose meter is fine to be put in check-in bag. Any one knows what the TSA policy is?
I bought the glucose meter for a friend, not for my own use. So I would like to put the brand-new one in my checked luggage and wonder if it is allowed, especially with the battery installed.

Best glucose meter?

Hi guys! See, I have seen this question asked before but the newest one is from a year ago, the thing is that my dad has been diagnosed with diabetes (do not know which type though) and we know nothing about these things. Is there a glucose meter that is better or more convenient than other? And if there is one on the market that does not require stripes or to pinch fingers?

Thanks for all your help!
Forgot to mention, my dad is 64 yo
lilboomer25, Thank you for your info, and the tip of the side pinch…unfortunately my dad lives in Mexico and has no insurance like in the US.

T H, Thanks for your advice, I myself am learning along with this. I want my dad to live the best he can and controlled.
Don C, awesome!! thank you very much! :)
Very nice of you Chris, I will definitively check your website.
Ms M, I will take a look at that and see what the thing is about, thank you very much! :)

Freestyle Freedom Lite – glucose meter?

We received a coupon for a new Freestyle Freedom Lite glucose meter. The meter was "free" but the sales tax was .

Now I see these meters selling on eBay for including 10 test strips.

http://cgi.ebay.com/FREESTYLE-LITE-freedom-monitor_W0QQitemZ260217942639QQihZ016QQcategoryZ15911QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD4VQQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p1638.m124

Our package included zero test strips. The smallest quantity available at the pharmacy cost .

We don’t want to pay to find out that we don’t like the free meter.

Is the "Lite" model more sensitive than the non-Lite model? If it requires less blood, that is a plus.

How can we obtain just a few strips?
