pregnancy/insurance question?

i was at the dr yesterday for my 33 week checkup and they informed me that after my 3 hour glucose tolerance test it came back high and that i have gestational diabetes again(had it in a previous pregnancy)i dont have to do the diabetic counceling because i have been through it before but they want me to check my sugar 3 times a day.i already have a glucose monitor machine.my question is since i forgot to ask lol is since i am on medicaid(i live in florida) will medicaid cover the lancets and strips that you put your blood on or is that out of pocket?and would i need a prescription from the dr for those strips.the last time the diabetic councelor just gave me the machine and everything that went with it but that was 5 years ago.thanks

I am on my 4th pregnancy and I have never had any problems with gestational diabetes before. I am so busy and so tired, do I have to do this? I feel fine, I don’t eat sweets and I eat very healthy.

My doctor said I won’t be going into labor by myself before my due date and she would have to induce labor the day after my due date because I have gestational diabetes but she didn’t say what the risks are if we just wait. My baby isn’t too big.

gestational diabetes test?

Right now it is 12:00pm. I have to go for a gestational diabetes test at 1:30pm. Can I eat lunch? If so, what can I eat…practically EVERY food has some sort of sugar in it!!

I just got my results from the one hour glucose test and was told my sugars were slightly elevated (they said it should be under 135 and mine was 143). I am going for the 3 hour glucose test tomorrow. Has anyone had high sugars with the 1 hour test then gone on to the 3 hour test and ended up WITHOUT gestational diabetes? I am nervous and do not want to have gestational diabetes.

I had gestational diabetes and am overweight. I would like to start the diet again. I can’t remember the carb breakdown….
I think it was something like
bfast-15
snack-30
Lunch-45
snack-30
dinner-45
snack-15

this seems like a lot of food to me…..
Am I remembering it wrong?

I was checked at 16 weeks and didn’t have it. I was checked at 28 weeks at was at 106 so i didn’t have it. then they checked me again at 32 weeks. I was 145. so not to much over the limit. I was never given the 3 hour test but I think I should have been. I have been put on the diabetic diet and given a meter to check my blood sugar. I was really good about my diet for a few days then I had a family issue. needless to say I had to eat what was provided. my blood sugar was fine! I tried the next day not portioning out any of my meals, still eating healthy but not using portions. my blood sugar was still fine. today for lunch I had Kraft Mac and cheese… again still fine. can I ask for the 3 hour test? will my insurance still pay for it if I ask for it? after explaining myself to the doctor do you think there is a reason for him to tell me I cant have it?
I am only 34 weeks and my baby is already 7 pounds 5 oz as of last wednesday. that is why I was tested at 32 weeks. I dont know why but everyone in my dr. office gets tested at 16 and 28 weeks
due July 9th~ Gestational Diabetes is diabetes only when pregnant. I am sorry for your friend but she has regular diabetes. not gestational. mine will go away once I give birth.

I have invited a couple over for a BBQ this weekend. The woman is 36 weeks pregnant and has gestational diabetes. I know she isn’t supposed to eat breads and things of that nature but what else should I avoid. I don’t want her to come over and then not be able to eat anything. Are eggs okay, like deviled eggs? Is steak or chicken better? Cheese okay? I suppose noodles are off limits… I am trying to think of appetizers and such, not just the main course.

Any advice is appreciated!

I was recently diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I have been monitoring my sugar levels for a little over a year now anyways, because I was pre-diabetic/insulin resistant. Anyways, my insurance will no longer carry my test strips and I need to switch to a different brand, so I am out for the weekend. I feel blind not being able to check my sugars 2 hrs. post meals. Although they normally never get over 180 or so, I still feel paranoid that without my strips it could shoot up to the 300′s or something. I was wanting to know if anyone could tell me what point does hyperglycemia become a life threat? 200, 300, 400, how high? I keep a pretty strict diet, so the chances of it getting over 200 are slim, considering that a dose of 100g carbs only brought my sugar to 240 an hour later. Still I am concerned. My doctor seems to think I will be fine until monday without checking myself. In fact she says I check to often. I just want to make sure I never develop horrible diabetic complications. I know there are not really any "symptoms" besides thirst, hunger, and frequent urination.

So, my question is: When I do get my strips and I check my sugar, when does it become an emergency that would require immediate medical attention.

I hear of people having to go to the hospital for insulin drips and such, but I believe they were in the high 500/600 range. I just want to put my mind at ease and know when to take action.

Thanks

I felt like I was going to pass out , about thirty minutes after drinking the juice . I had to get medical attention but I went through with the whole test . I wana know if this pretty much means I do have gestational diabetes , because of my reaction to the test? Or is there still possibilties I dont have it ? Thanks for your help im very worried.

My Glucose meter read 308?

I had gestational diabetes with both my kids. The youngest is now four. I’ve been good since the birth of the kids but here lately I’ve felt….well…off. I’m easily irritable, my concentration is seriously lacking at times, though I’m not overly thirsty, nor am I peeing more than I ever have. This morning for breakfast I had raisin bran (6:30am). At 11am I was feeling shakey and nervous. A fruit cup helped with the feeling and I continued my day as normal but with that nagging thought in the back of my head. I’ve had boughts of this "shaky" symptomatic feelings off and on the last year or so, feeling "Low". So tonight after I ate dinner (2 bratwurst with buns, a little ketchup and onions, and about 5 ounces of coca-cola. Yes, I know the coke is bad).

I had my husband search for my old Accu-Chek Compact meter during the day since I was at work and thirty minutes after eating I took a reading. It read 308.

So my questions are this:

1) Do meter test strips (in a sealed drum) have a shelf life? (mine are now 4 years old.)
2) If so how would that affect the reading? Other than being way off.
3) If I’m really over 300, shouldn’t I feel all bad or something? I feel fine.

Any suggestions will help. I’ve started a meal diary and will be taking glucose levels with the strips I’ve got on hand for this week to have info to take in to the doctor when I go.

Diabetes Type 1 hereditary?

The paternal grandfather of my unborn child has type 1 diabetes. I’ve tried googling this, can’t find a good answer. What are the chances of this child having it?
If I have gestational diabetes, does the risk go up?

If I eat sugar while pregnant will the baby be born insulin dependent?

Sorry, if these are dumb questions, but I’m getting flack from a know-it-all. I just had my prenatal exam yesterday and I won’t see my doctor for another six weeks.

I am 30 weeks pregnant and failed the first screening of gestational diabetes last week. My lovely 3 hour test is Monday morning. All week I’ve been eating pretty well (fruits, veggies, grilled chicken), only drinking water and excercising. What else should I do?

is 84 on a glucometer bad?

I was just recently diagnosed with gestational diabetes and my nurse told me to keep it below 100 after the 10 hour fast, but it just seems too low. and how low can you go for it to be considered ok? Thank you!

I know that the glucose tolerance test for gestational diabetes is very uncomfortable for those of you who are preganant. Having type 1 diabetes I was wondering, would it be reasonable (possible) to simply do a finger prick with a blood glucose meter instead?

This would be faster, cheaper and far more comfortable. Obviously, it is highly accurate for those of us who depend on accurate readings for a sliding scale for insulin dosage.
With all due respect, I absolutely agree with you that testing for gestational diabetes is very important. However, I do not believe that the 1 and 3 hour test is any more accurate than the meter (although I am open to learning otherwise). It just seems like killing a butterfly with a hammer e.g. overkill–a very difficult test for the expecting mother when an equally accurate reading is available that is much less invasive and difficult.
Thanks Silly Nilly–that is exactly what I thought too. The meter tests for exactly the same thing as the 1 and 3 hour test (gestational diabetes may be different than type 1 or type 2–but the test is looking for the identical thing) and wait on the 3 hour test to see if a meter indicates elevated glucose levels (although even then I question–perhaps wrongly–whether the1 hour and 3 hour test is ever necessary–it’s not necessary anymore to diagnose type 1 or type 2 diabetes)
