So i’m really interested in blood sugar and diabetes and my diabetes Type II runs in my family. I’ve been taking my blood sugar about once a day for the last 3 weeks. The lowest I have been was 76 and the highest was 157 (this was about 4 hours after supper one night and I really wasn’t feeling well). I just took my blood sugar because I’m really not feeling well (tiredness, nausea, headache, and a few other things) and it was 149. Could this be a reason I’m not feeling well? I’ve taken it a few days 4 times a day and my blood sugar is kind of strange because it is low in the morning (so that’s not weird) then goes high before lunch and supper then kind of drops off. Could I have pre-diabetes?

I recently found out I’m pre-diabetic, and I’ve been sick for a few days. My sugars have been kinda high, but the last time i checked them, my meter gave me the signal to check my ketones. Can I do that if I’m on my period, and if not, what should i do about it? Does being on my period affect my sugars any? Thanks for the help!!

one of my campbell’s dwarfs died yesterday, despite controlled diet and so on.i assumed her sister had it as well.but this morning, only a very small amount of water was gone from the bottle-b4 it had been copious.the bedding, usually saturated, was dry.in short,i had assumed that both littermates were diabetic, now i think it was only one.it happened suddenly, the first one went downhill so fast.as soon as i noticed the copious drinking/wetting i decided to change their diet and do test strips.the day i was going to buy the strips, the one hamster died.my question-i think the remaining hamster is well.she doesnt wet/drink a lot as the other started to.i still have her on hi protein ,hi fiber diet and pick out the corn ,peas etc.but what about the half pedialyte/half water in the bottle?should i continue untill i test her urine,as a safeguard-or would use of it mess her up,if she is not diabetic?ive used it for a few days now -i started b4 her sister died, which was yesterday.my mom can take me to get test strips 2morro-should i give her pedialyte and water now,or just water?thanx to all,im doing the best i can,and its hard!(i thought the diet/pedialyte would work on my other hamster, but it didnt.so far, this one seems well.)

My doctor put me on Metformin 500mg last Friday. I am taking it twice a day for a total of 1000mg a day. Well, I called and spoke to my doctor’s nurse today. She said I could switch to taking it three times a day if I felt comfortable. I have not had any major side effects since taking the medication, besides a few days of upset stomach. So my question is, from your own experience, how long should I wait before switching to three times a day?

I used to be fine with it, but for the past week I’ve started getting severely distracted when I hear any clear word that I understand. My eyes twitch to the top left, and I need to re-read the word that I have last read – it’s getting really annoying. It’s like a waste 200ms EVERY time I hear a word. HELP!
What could cause this sudden inability to concentrate? Psychological trauma? poor nutrition? a disease like diabetes?
How do I fix this? I want to be able to read in noisy environments again and be able to ignore the words that I hear.
Well, I’m stressed about not being able to concentrate on one thing – so that leads to more stress – that’s an infinite loop… So I should just not try to read anything for a few days – that combined with self hypnosis should fix my problem? LOL

Had a blood test 6 days before expected period with a negative result. Is it possible that it was too early to test and it could be positive in a few days?

for the past few days, i have been avoiding sugars
because of a yeast infection.
i was wondering if anyone happened to know
whether sugar substitutes (maltiol, sorbitol, xylitol, ect.)
produce or allow yeast to grow in the body?
thank you : )

I had to go on Primolut for three weeks to stop a three week period, I was only on 5mg and was told to expect a period a few days after stopping it. It is now three weeks after stopping, I haven’t had my period for 6 weeks. Last week I went to the doctor who did a pregnancy test, I also had a blood test done to rule out pregnancy. They both came back negative. On the day after the blood test I noticed some spotting, hardly anything, just a little bit of pink. I heard people have spotting sometimes when they are pregnant, could it have just been un noticed? Or could this have been like a period, but not? I’m confused. The doctor assured me the blood test was a definite measure (though I have heard of a case where it wasn’t) but I need to know the likelyhood that it could have been a false negative!
Thanks in advance.

Diabetes runs in the family. My mother, sister, gran, etc all have it. Randomly I did a blood check (the pinprick machine) one morning and I had 7.0 (very high before breakfast considering it should be between 4 and 6). So I had a slice of wholegrain toast and went from 9 to 3 without eating. Did another pinprick test and I got 11.2, I’m like "woah". So I go to the doctor’s and they say "right, fasting blood glucose check". I waited a few days, did the fasting blood test and controlled my sugar levels throughout the week by eating very healthily, counting carbs and taking cinnamon tablets to help lower blood sugar. Although still very slightly high they weren’t as bad – I was waking up with 4.5 and 2 hours after wholegrain I had 6.2. On Tuesday I received my results and I was absolutely fine – my average is 5.5 and the range was from 3.5 – 6. Thinking that I was back to normal I went to university and had lasagne and lots of coffee. I got back just now (3 hours after eating), washed my hands, did a pinprick test and I got 16.2… in a few words, what on earth is going on? Are my results wrong?

I wasn’t thinking and I put the control liquid on the strip and inserted that end into the machine.
I wonder if now it is broken?
I had a hard time pricking my cats’ ears to draw blood
to do the test and so I am waiting a few days until his ears heal to try it again.

hi ladies- i’m 15 weeks, my doctor said for me to gain 35lbs during this pregnancy. At my 15 weeks appt i had gained 6lbs….. but i’m starting to feel kind of sick again- and it appears to be in correlation with eating sugar more so than regular food items. In the past 2 days ago i’ve lost 1 lb according to my scale and i weight at the same time daily. I’m worried that losing weight or not gaining is a bad thing- and believe them i’m all for gaining weight! I gained about 80lbs with my daughter and i certainly don’t want to gain that again but i feel i was on the right track of gaining about 35lbs until the past few days when i started getting lightheaded and nauseous after some meals.
For example, this morning i ate 2 eggs and 1 slice of wheat toast. About an hour later- i shared a creme-filled doughnut with my daughter (yea i used Thanksgiving as an excuse this morning
) and then i started feeling really sick!!!! It felt as if i had literally eaten multiple bowls or ice cream or some other INSANE amount of sugar. But my best guess is that the entire doughnut contained 60 grams of sugar (according to the nutrition i found online)…. so between myself, my daughter, and what she fed the dogs, i had about 25-30 grams of sugar. Another example is last night i had 2 pieces of toast to "calm" my stomach and i felt sick afterwards…. same as i feel this morning after eating sugar.
So- what do you think? Could these be symptoms of gestational diabetes or is my body just not reacting well to carbs and sugars for some other reason?
Regardless, i will mention it at my next appt- but i would like to hear from experienced mothers in the meantime.

I just got diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes and have to see a diabetic dietician counselor in a few days. Does anyone know what kind of foods they have you eat if you are a Gestational Diabetic?
I know you should avoid sugar but are natural sugars ok…like sugars in fruit, etc?
I’m new to this whole thing so any advice will be great.

For the the last few days I have been drinking alot and peeing alot. I used to go 3 times a day, now it’s like 5-6. I’m really worried! I’m 13 and yea I’m at risk of being overweight but I’m not obese. And I’m scared! For one I’m deathly afraid of needles. My mom made me use her glucosameter to test my blood and I had to hold my brothers hand I was so scared! But I overreacted. I was reading sites on teenage diabetes and my eyes welled up. Yea I’m a wuss. And I’m scared about the fact that I might be. Please help; do you think I am? It’s all Over my maternal family. My reading was only 99 though. My mom has hypoglycemia and I used her meter. I don’t want to inject myself with insulin. Am I alone? Or can anybody relate to me? Oh and can it effect your menstrual cycle???
