Are there alternatives to glucophage?

I have pcos with the insulin resistance but the glucophage makes me sick to my stomach every day. It also is not helping with any weight loss even combined with diet and exercise. Is there anything else that can be taken to control this? I’m going in to the doctors in 2 weeks to discuss a plan of action to help with the weight and help with getting pregnant and would like ideas beforehand to discuss with her. Any advice/help is appreciated!

Most of the doctor and information I get from the net says that to overcome type 2 diabetes, we need to loose weight. I agree that to maintain the sugar level we need some diet and exercise but why weight loose.

If someone in underweight has diabetic, then what he/she will do.
I am an pre-diabetic patient and I am trying to control my sugar level without eating any insulin. I just exercise everyday and I eat only diet food which is recommended by doctor. But works fine and my sugars are also in the normal level.

Looking to see if anyone has had problem with the Freedom Freestyle meter.
I am a pre-diabetic that is using diet and exercise to stay off diabetic meds.
My Dr asked me to test twice daily. Started in March.
Using a Freesyle Lite meter and have had 2 meters within 2 months go faulty. Both gave me extremely high readings, 478, retook the test within a minute down to 165. withing another minute down to 157.
Reported it to the maker, Abbott both times. First time they sent me 2 meters and 200 test strips. I returned the faulty meter.
This time I emailed Abbott and told them I no longer trust their meter and had I been taking meds to lower my sugar I could have been in trouble. Also asked if they made them in China.
Pretty bad, just want to know if anyone else has experienced this and if so hopefully you didn’t take medication after a very high reading.
May 29th, Abbott Labs called me regarding my email and the faulty meter. Told them I couldn’t trust the readings since this has occured twice in about the same length of time on each meter. Told them I would try again however it would be the last time. Told them I am looking for an accurate meter.
I do wash my hands for each test and use my finger which they tell me is actually the best. They also told me to take it to my doctors office and have a test done there and do the meter at the same time.
They asked me to try one more time, sent me a new kit today.
They did say their meters are made in China.
I did send an email to the FDA’s link asking them to investigate the accuracy of this particular meter.
Again it’s the Freedom Freestyle LITE.
Thanks for the two responses.

How do I quickly lower blood sugar?

Sometimes when I am at work, my blood sugar gets very high (over 300). Is there any way of quickly and safely lowering it. I have a desk job and am on the phones so I cannot get up and exercise. Does anyone have any suggestions? Maybe something I can keep in my purse. I would prefer something all natural if possible. (I keep an extra glucometer at my desk, that is how I know for sure that it is too high. I do not take/have insulin.) It only happens occasionally 2-3 times a month.

How can I mantain my insulin levels stable?

I found this on an article:

"As long as you have <9grams carbs per hour, your insulin levels will balance out and in result balance other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so lean tissue will be gained even without exercise."

How can I get those 9 grams carbs per hour?

If a healthy diet and exercise regiment is enforced, will diabetes continue to be a problem?

What are some health issues, if any, that are irreversible even if you have have control over your diabetes?
FYI: this is related to type II. It’s for a project in my Bio class

He is 28 and about 6’2" and 230 lbs.
He has healthy cholesterol and low blood pressure.
He gets a lot of exercise daily, even a few miles of walking at work.
He used to smoke, but quit 5 months ago. (yay!)

For some reason, he finds that fruits like oranges and apples raise his blood sugar level. He says that meats seem to affect him least. But he can’t figure out what to eat to satisfy him. He wants to try eggs in the morning as something hopefully to fill him up but not raise his blood sugar.

Does anyone know a good diet regimen for him? Any help is appreciated. The more details the better! Thank you!
Also, specifically- what should his general lifestyle be like with low blood pressure and healthy cholesterol with type 2 diabetes?

I was diagnosed just last week and my numbers were coming down steadily for days and then suddenly rose about 50 points. Diet and exercise were good but had extreme stress the day before it went up so bad. Does it just take time to come down and stay down?

Blood Sugar Level Too High?

I’m 21 and not overweight. My dad is overweight and has recently been diagnosed with Diabetes. The whole family gathered around one night as was using his testing kit to see what our blood sugar was at. Mine came up at 138. I had eaten some pasta with carrots and broccoli with water and a cup of yogurt (20g of sugar per serving) about an hour earlier. My aunt and cousin who are both RNs told me that I shouldn’t worry about it and it was normal. I am a hypochondriac though. I took my level again the next day after not having eaten because of jetskiing and swimming for about 3-4 hours and I tested at 84. Is the low count a result of exercise? Should I be worried about the previous high count?
I had a tonsillectomy about 3 weeks ago and they took my blood and did chest xrays and everything. So I have had a blood test done. I guess I was just being hypochondriac thanks for the replies.

I _need_ to have diabetes because my doctor won’t let me have Byetta just for weight loss. Now I know everyone who answers this is going to say, stupid fat person should just eat right and exercise. But it doesn’t matter how perfectly I eat, or how much I exercise. I’ve already tried more diets than you can imagine. No, really. I’ve tried that one too. Yup, and that one, so don’t bother telling me how I just haven’t done enough of your version of eating right and exercizing. I just need to know how much longer I have to keep shovelling sugary crap into my gullet before they will let me have the Byetta.
I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say I think deliberately giving myself diabetes in order to have access to a drug that will peel 30 lbs a month off this disgusting THING THAT I HAVE BEEN FORcED TO LIVE IN is way saner and healthier than building a guillotine to shove all the fat through and chop off. Every day that my doctors refuse to let me have Byetta is a day they are forcing me to fantasize about cutting it all off. And just because the fda hasn’t approved Byetta for weight loss, doesn’t mean they never will. There are human trials being done on that very topic, but 1. I’m too fat too qualify for the study (go figure); and 2. live at least a thousand miles from hospital they are doing the study out of. So in order for me to get Byetta as a weight loss drug, I’ll have to wait a few years. Easier and faster to eat myself into diabetes and get it that way.
That’s right. I keep forgetting. The stupid fat person can’t possibly know what she’s talking about. Otherwise she wouldn’t still be so disgustingly fat. No, really, you stupid fat person, you were just imagining all those diets you were on. All that physical activity you participated was only in your dreams. If you had actually ridden your bike three thousand miles in a year while taking tai chi lessons and working at a non-sedantary job and following a Overeaters Anonymous eating plan, you wouldn’t still be fat.
there’s that definition of insanity that reads "doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results is crazy." I know you all can’t believe that what I say about having already tried all kinds of diets and lots of exercise, over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. But it would be insane to try diet and exercise ever again, because it isn’t going to make me skinny. It will only make me a little bit less fat. If it is extremely offensive of me to seek a route out of this hideous, horrible disgusting life of obesity (yeah, you go ahead and imagine being TOO FAT for a weight loss drug study) via an unconventional means, I find it even more offensive that you refuse to believe me. Stop preaching at me for not knowing what I’m talking about and give me an answer. OR DON’T ANSWER.
as for the doctors, they run tests. and the tests show I’m mildly hypothyroid, so they prescribe me some synthroid. and then they re-test, and the new results show, oh, so scientifically, how what they have given me is the right dosage for me, and there’s nothing else really wrong.

can’t argue with the test results, not when they are so consistent.

Why can’t they just up the dose of the synthroid just because? Because overdosing on it might cause brittle bones.

Will they make you lose weight? I know someone who’s been taking them for about a week now and they lost seven pounds and they didn’t do anything. They are not on a diet and no type of exercise. Could it be true? Please help!
