Hi! How are doctors able to determine whether or not a person is pregnant through a blood test? Like is there something in your blood that is different or changes or something?

The reason for the question is because of a story I need to write, and I wasn’t sure what the doctors had to see in the blood to tell if the person is pregnant or not…

A friend of mine has been diabetic since he was 11 y.o. He is 55 now. He had a kidney transplant a couple of years ago, but the new kidney is now only 20% functional because of the BK-virus. He started having problems with his legs about 6 months ago and now he can not feel one of his feet and can barely limp on the other one. Doctors say that the nerve in one foot died and the other foot will always be swollen and hurt quite a bit.

Somebody recommended Vanadyl Plus, but it is too toxic for the transplanted kidney.

I wonder if anybody knows of any treatment for such complications from diabetes. We need something that would work for a type 1 diabetes patient with a kidney transplant.

I am living with diabetes since 10 years, but do not know if I am Type-1 or Type-2. I am around 50, male, 63kg, 1.68m ht, taking different kinds of diabetes table only some time when I feel (using self-testing Gluco-Meter) my BS is hgih. My consulting Doctor did not specify if I am Type-1 or Type-2, nor do I can ask the Doctor about it since Doctors in my country (India) think themselves as they came from other planet.

Therefore, can any one say the symptom or sign to adentify the Diabetes type-1 or Type-2?

If person has no health coverage and can’t afford the fee for a doctors appointment, how are they supposed to get tested for diabetes? They are showing all of the signs and symptoms, but with health care being unaffordable where do they go?

Me and my husband have been trying for two years and cant affford all the test the doctors want us to do.

I am a week and 5 days late for my period. I have had a few blue dye tests come up as positive (very thin lines though) but I went in for the test at the doctors and it was negative. She sent me for a blood test anyway because of the results I got at home. Feeling hopeless right now:(. Has this ever happened to anyone and what were the results??

I’m a 21 year old male. I was tested for STDs about half a year ago and that included a blood test. I came back negative for HIV.

My question is, can the doctors or lab technicians, whomever it was that analyzed my blood sample, also notice high sugar levels in my blood even if they are looking for signs of HIV?

I am diabetic and trying to get off all the med’s the doctors give you that are chemicals and make you gain weight. I am eating a very healthy and nutritional diet(now),and doing alot of exercise 5 days a week…. but my blood sugar is still very high, need help fight this battle.
I am still taking my insulin shots 2 times a day, but not all the other pills.

I’m 28 years old. I’ve had a swollen gland on the left side of my neck and pressure in my ear and under my tounge for about two and a half months (the pressure comes and goes through out the day). I went to several doctors and had blood tests done and got my results today: blood count, blood sugar, thyroid, metabolism are all normal and I tested negative for mono (also ears looked fine and I do NOT have a sore throat) I’ve been on two different antibiotcs and have not noticed a satisfactory change. As for the last few days I’ve been painfully tired, dizzy, the lyrics to "Ice, Ice Baby" stuck in my head, lightheaded and having ‘hot spells’ but no chills to speak of. What’s going on ? I’m becoming VERY worried – I’ve never been more stressed in my life! I can’t seem to get a straight answer out of any of these stupid doctor’s !!

I have been in the hospital for almost three days and I am not suppose to eat so that ny pancrease can rest the doctors think I have type two diabetes but I disagree for examples they had needles on my arm that left a bruise and a day later the bruise was gone and know I have to take pain pills for my still healing pancreas and insulin for my "diabetes" and t sugar levels have been 111,136,&146 so please help ……

I am a type 1 diabetic living in Houston, Texas who is looking for a doctor who would support a low carbohydrate/high fat approach to control my blood sugars. I have made large improvements using this approach/way of eating but I need a doctor who would support this approach. Does anybody know of any doctors in Houston that are supportive of this approach?

Avandia was prescribed by doctors for treatment of diabetes for me for me since 2001.

My doctor informed me that at my next doctors appointment we are going to have to do a glucose screening test. Just wondering if all pregnant women have to do it or is it just because diabetes runs in my family? And how gross is the drink that they make you drink? I have bad gag reflex and I’m afraid I might not keep it down.
