I’ve only been diagnosed since this past April and I am already experiencing numbness and pain in my feet and my vision is getting blurry. Does this mean that I’ve had the illness for some time and didn’t know it? Should I be taking insulin or medication with these symptoms rather than relying on diet and exercise?

Also, I have depression that doesn’t respond to treatment with anti-depressants for very long. Could the diabetes be causing this? Would medication or insulin help stop the depression?

How does your blood sugar increase?

OK, I’m a new diabetic (type2.) I know there’s a direct link between carbohydrate intake and blood sugar increase. But here’s my diet for 2 days – 30 grams of carbs on day 1, 30 on day 2, yet my first reading for day 3 shows an increase of like 20 overnight with no carb intake in between? How?

Glucophage???

Since being diagnosed with Type II Diabetes I have lost 22 pounds, gave up flour, sugar and white rice, jog two miles a day and really fought going on meds. My doctor talked me into Glucophage at 500mg each evening – the very lowest dose he said. I have had incredible numbers since. I fought meds because I didn’t want to be one of those "lazy diabetics" who rely on meds but don’t make any life changes – I know several. He really insisted on the meds and I’m glad I gave in. But . . . he told me I could come off meds if I lost another 20 pounds and got my A16 lower in the next 3 months – I was 7.7 before Glucophage. How will he/I be able to tell if it was diet and exercise or the meds that bring my BG down? I am very happy with my numbers since adding meds but would love to be off of them entirely. Any experience getting off meds? or with Glucophage? Thanks!
Oops! I meant A1C not A16 – but that’s probably a test of some kind :o )

Does anyone know of any cites or have any diet plans?

I have failed the 1 hour glucose test twice. I am taking the 3 hour on Friday. I am wondering what I should expect in my pregnancy if I fail. Has anyone failed the 1hour and passed the 3 hour? I’m on the 3 day diet, and I feel fine normally. I just dont want to have to worry about harm coming to my baby after no complications thus far.

Thanks!

After having a fasting glucose level a little over 100, I started becoming nervous about being prediabetic. I wound up getting a meter and a few strips just for the sake of peace of mind. I never had a fasting level over 100 again, which was a relief, but I did find out that if my post-meal level got over 135, those were the times I got headaches, feeling tired, and generally just feeling like crap. Since then I used the meter to help alter my diet, and found good combonations that helped me stay under 130. I haven’t had a problem with feeling like crap after meals since.

So, on to the issue… I haven’t been eating very well, and sometimes could only manage to eat once a day. Horrible, I know. I’ve started feeling shakey and tired all the time, and last night felt light-headed, and had a strange sort of headache. I remembered feeling similar one time when my level was 56, so I decided to test to see if that was the culprit, considering my lack of intake. It was 97 or so. I thought that was a little strange, and double checked it. It registered around the same. I decided to grab a soda to see how my body was reacting, and see how badly my lack of appetite has screwed me up. Well, an hour after starting the soda, actually drinking it rather than sipping at it, my level was 66. Confused, I tried testing twice more and got 70 both times. I’d felt a little worse after drinking the soda, but these aren’t exactly hypoglycemic levels, I thought. Stumped, I decided to test again at the two hour mark. I got 100, then 99. I tested again half an hour later just to see if there would be any change, and it was still hovering in the high 90′s.

This morning I tested once more and got a 79. I would have double checked again, but I was out of strips.

My husband decided to check in case there was something off about the strips or the meter, as he never even had a level go above 120. In otherwords, perfectly normal. He got consistant levels a little over 110 or so, and he’d eaten some time prior, and had the soda same time as me. Pretty much average for him (he’s tested a few times before, since his mother is diabetic).

Each time made sure hands were clean, new lancet, coded correctly, etc. I haven’t had a fasting level under 80 since February, much less after a meal. Mostly it weirds me out, and I wanted to know if anyone else has had an experience like this.

I’m going to start at least eating what I can on a more regular basis (I’ve heard every 3-4 hours is a good idea) and hope it will at least help my appetite grow, if not regulate everything again, since I suspect that’s the main culprit. I’ve no idea what to think beyond that, though.

I have no idea what's going on. Help?

Okay. I finally got insurance after being told by the health department that I’m diabetic. I’ve been paying for my strips out-of-pocket (which is NOT easy) To bypass the "pre-existing condition" problem and get my insurance to pay for my strips, I went to see my new doctor to get a full work-up and to test for diabetes. I passed the fasting with an 87, the GTT with 140 at one hour and 117 at 2 hours. I’ve also had an A1c done, I’m still waiting on those results, but my sugars have been well controlled for quite some time now. I’m very frustrated! Does this mean I don’t have diabetes? Can I go back to the days where I didn’t have to really watch what I ate? Can this be a by-product of good control? What’s going on here? Should I return to my old diet and exercise routine and get re-tested? Help!!

borderline diabetic. doc gave me an accucheck meter to monitor and control sugar through diet and life style changes.
i will see the doc again this friday and discuss my results with him.
doc has been using blood tests from the lab and an accu check in his office to monitor me several times a year, always close, but never into the diabetic range.

my level all day stays below 140.
fasting is out of control. first thing in the morning im averaging 120.
"Dawn Phenomenon" was suggested in another question, which i wil discus with the doc.

as an experiment, i did not eat anything for 16 hours. reading was 128.

can not eating push it up that high?

should i try several small meals through the day?

or is my something wrong? have i become a diabetic over night and i cant control this anymore? should i call the doc on monday?

thanks everyone, this is new to me and im just not sure when it becomes critical and i should worry.

My boyfriend is diabetic and sometimes he loses his meter. We were discussing glucagon and his shot today, because my doctor thinks (neither of us are convinced) that I am a diabetic, so he told me to watch my diet and gave me a glucagon shot. I was wondering what would happen if someone were to pass out with high blood sugars or just from heat or something, have it mistaken for a hypo attack, and they were given the glucagon shot? Is this dangerous? I don’t want to hurt my boyfriend if he passes out from high sugars, or has one of his seizures, and i give him his shot, mistaking the signs for hypo because i can’t find his meter.
His sugars are very well controlled right now, but he does have seizures sometimes. What can happen if his sugars are normal (let’s say 110-140) and i give him the shot thinking he’s hypo? I’m REALLY scared about this!!
