Diabetics often need injections of insulin to help maintain the proper blood glucose levels in their bodies.

Since being diagnosed with Type II Diabetes I have lost 22 pounds, gave up flour, sugar and white rice, jog two miles a day and really fought going on meds. My doctor talked me into Glucophage at 500mg each evening – the very lowest dose he said. I have had incredible numbers since. I fought meds because I didn’t want to be one of those "lazy diabetics" who rely on meds but don’t make any life changes – I know several. He really insisted on the meds and I’m glad I gave in. But . . . he told me I could come off meds if I lost another 20 pounds and got my A16 lower in the next 3 months – I was 7.7 before Glucophage. How will he/I be able to tell if it was diet and exercise or the meds that bring my BG down? I am very happy with my numbers since adding meds but would love to be off of them entirely. Any experience getting off meds? or with Glucophage? Thanks!
Oops! I meant A1C not A16 – but that’s probably a test of some kind

500 mg is a normal dosage, maximum is 2000 mg a day, used to treat type 2 diabetics, but has awesome benefits for polycystic ovarian syndrome(pcos)

I read that in a book called Sweetblood, and now I’m writing a paper about vampires vs. untreated diabetics, so I need to know if that actually happens and if so, why?

My husband has Type 1 diabetes and will need to go on a personal health insurance plan. The ones we found are an outrageous expense. Does anyone know of a good company that supports type 1 diabetics?

i am a 15 and i suffer from type 1 diabetes.
every time my blood sugar drops below 90, i become
extremely depressed. i feel like theres no point in my life, like i have
no friends and i have no motivation to do anything. i feel so depressed. i was wondering if this is common among diabetics or if theres a specific name for this? also, if theres anything i can do to help this (medication, ect.) if you could help me out, that would be great

I asked a similar question in medicine, but hoping some more holistic folks might have some insight. I have PCOS so I’m supposedly insulin resistant and symptoms are caused by high levels of insulin in the blood. Stevia is supposedly safe for me and diabetics, although it stimulates insulin secretion. How can it be safe for me to take even though it stimulates insulin secretion? Aren’t I supposed to avoid high levels of insulin in the blood? Thanks!

my cat is diabetic and i need to be able to test her blood sugar at home with a glucose meter. i’ve tried using the lancets to draw the blood, but with her fur and tough skin i can’t get enough blood to test it. is it safe to use one of the syringes for her insulin to withdraw blood so i can put it on the test strip?? i’m worried that withdrawing the blood through the syringe will somehow let air into her bloodstream, which is dangerous, or that it will affect the test results
i’ve already posted in pets, just wanted to see if any diabetics had any advice

I’m not diabetic, but I am a medical student that has been given the task to create a diet plan which consists of 1500 calories, and to be diabetic approved.
My current calculation has given me the sum of 149.2g of sugar for the course of the day, breakfast to dinner.
Is this alright or have i gone too high?
I cannot seem to find a page of any sort saying safe daily intake on sugar for diabetics.
Much appreciated if anyone could feed me info.

I know that diabetics should not eat foods/drinks with alot of glucose. But some people dont follow the rules. Whats an ideal amount (or max amount) of glucose intake should a diabetic have each day in grams please.?

Im on warfarin for life i have to have my INR level checked reguarly much like a diabetic needs to check there sugar levels . The danger of my INR being at a wrong level like a diabetic may result in my death , bleeding or stroke .
So why the question ?
Well iwas sitting in the doctor surgery and noticed a leaflet telling me that self monitoring of my INR is important the leaflet advertised a INR monitor looking much the same as a diabetic sugar monitor and with the same test strips to insert and finger prick system , it was £299 but then went on to say that the strips were funded by the NHS . It left me wondering that the NHS obviously recognised that self monitoring was a good idea but unlike diabetic monitoring were not prepared to fund entirely the whole system , why is this ?
@zanin ACTUALLY! thrombosis is one of the biggest killers going …………….lol and is far more common than diabetes . Dont get me wrong i totally support monitoring for diabetics , btu struggle with why those dependant on warfarin arent afforded the same care

I was wondering if there is a blood sugar moniter out there that is like a watch, and you can set it to automatically test your blood like every 3,5,or 10 hours ( something like that) where is has a built in lance to get your blood from your wrist.
i don’t know about other diabetics but I’m really busy all the time and I forget to test my blood alot and the next thing you know I’m having a low. I think something like this would be great possibly save lives ( my cousin can’t tell when she is having a low because she is 6 and its still new to her). It would also save time and you wouldn’t have to take a bunch of test strip bottles, moniters, lancets ect everywhere you go.
if they don’t have something like this I want to find out how to get something like this created.
