I am not diabteic but the dad is he has type 1 diabetes. what are the odds? Is it inherited? Do both parents have to have the diabetic gene?

I have been experiencing a lot of diabetic symptoms and it runs in my family so I went to the doctor and she did a fasting glucose test. That was a little higher then normal, but not overly high. Then she said she wanted to do that A1C just to check that. She said I wasn’t diabetic, but that I was right in the middle of diabetic and non-diabetic. Then she said to monitor what I ate and how much activity I was getting and if I wanted to take the GTT I could. I already eat very healthy and exercise at least 4 times a week if not more, so it’s not like I’m really changing that much. The only difference is that instead of just eating "healthy" I have to balance stuff a little better. My dad is diabetic and has a meter so I had been testing myself like once a week or so or if I started feeling really bad and needed to know if I was too high or low. I hadn’t checked in a couple weeks though for some reason and I was feeling really sick. I had been so dizzy so I finally decided I should check and see if my blood sugar had anything to do with it. I was partly expecting it to be super low because I hadn’t eaten much at all and nothing in about 6 or 7 hours, but it was 145. I was a little surprised by that, but figured maybe I should be testing when that happened just to know. So I started really paying attention to when I was feeling like that and it was usually 2-4 hours after a meal. My dad suggested that I should take the GTT just so they can see what happens then. The only problem is that it doesn’t happen EVERY time I eat. My blood sugar always goes higher (obviously, everyone’s does) after I eat, but it doesn’t go into 145-150 every time. Sometimes it will drop after a meal to 60-70. And sometimes it just stays the same. MOST of the time it goes up to 145-150, but not 100%. What if I take the test and it’s one of those few times it doesn’t do anything? I don’t wanna play around with my blood sugar because I know that it can cause problems, and I want to know what to do, but at the same time I don’t want to waste a bunch of money and time on a test that’s going to not show what happens on an normal basis. What do you guys think? Should I do it or no?

I think I display most of the classic symptoms of diabetes..I’m tired, very pale, thirsty (I carry a water bottle with me most of the time), my legs ache and I urinate almost every hour. I managed to get some urine strips and checked….but no sugar in urine. Could I still be diabetic?

I fainted a month ago and was referred to a neurologist and told to get a blood test done. I should get the test results (fasting glucose was one of them) within the week, but I’m a college student and really, really want to know what is going on…I can barely work. I can’t really concentrate. My dad thinks it could be just stress, but I feel pretty ill.

I should also add that I just had a pretty heavy period, so that could explain some of the symptoms, but not all I think…

Any ideas???

My wife is 100% Meskwaki Indian and her mom is enrolled with the tribe as well as her "dad" as full blood Meskaki but it is not confirmed that her dad is really her dad. She needs a blood test to prove so she can get her per-diam. Does anyone know who to call to set this up with the tribe? Thank you!

i checked by blood sugar and it was before i ate breakfast 85 then later on after lunch it was 105 is it low? i don’t know i asked my parents and they were shocked…my dad comes from a line of diabetic.

my dad’s test strips expired and he still used it. i was wondering if it would give a false reading.

I am 36, Dad Died in May from Diabetes Complications, Mom is Insulin Controlled Diabetes, Brother Diabetes as well. I keep gaining weight around only my stomach, and this Lipo is for medical reasons, not laziness. I PT 7 Days a week with plenty of cardio and decent diet. Don’t know if we can or not but Females can receive Breast Implants and Reduction anyway.

My dad is diabetic. I believe only type II, diet based. He is taking pills to regulate his blood sugar, though he’s said there has been no change with that. He is home alone at the moment, and he has been feeling extremely tired and light headed for the past day. The tester wasn’t giving any readings, so I will be buying new (non-expired) strips soon to test him on it.

He also is recovering from eye surgery that he had under a week ago.

I understand the best thing would to be see a doctor. However, that is not an option just yet unless it is an extreme emergency. My question is, is being extremely weak, and light headed a common symptom of diabetes, or could it be something worse? If so, what?

My dad has a bad pancreas and we just found out that my dad has type 2 diabetes, will having both issues make one or the other worse? He also has Multiple Sclerosis and Epilepsy…..
Besides the fact that he has diabetes, I know that means he has a bad pancreas. What I mean is, prior to that, part of his pancreas is dying and it keeps getting infected resulting in him being hospitalized. I already knew that diabetes also results in a bad pancreas thank you!!!

Hi, my dad has type 1 diabetes and was prescribed Avandia and after 3 days of taking it he really started to feel bad all over. I looked it up online and there is alot of controversy around it and how bad it is… Can anyone tell me their experience with it and what could be a alternative to it…. He needs medication for this but he dont want to take this stiff anymore and I cant blame him!!!! Please, help us … Thank you, Amber

My dad has diabetes and he complains about his feet hurting all of the time. Is there anything that can help with the pain? Or to maybe give rid of it?

Ok so I really love sugar. Some nights I’ll even have 2 desserts and my dad always says I’m going to get fat and have diabetes and that I won’t get insurance because the insurance company won’t help me since I’ll be in such bad shape. I wanted to know how many grams of sugar I should ingest a day so I can keep from getting diabetes.
