Want to keep the carbs under 15 per snack.
I forgot to mention I also have to watch my salt and fat. Sucks but Oh well life goes on.

How does your blood sugar increase?

OK, I’m a new diabetic (type2.) I know there’s a direct link between carbohydrate intake and blood sugar increase. But here’s my diet for 2 days – 30 grams of carbs on day 1, 30 on day 2, yet my first reading for day 3 shows an increase of like 20 overnight with no carb intake in between? How?

Sweet 'N Low???

Ok so sweet n low sounds to good to be true where’s the catch??? It doesnt have any calories and less than 1 carb. Is it actually healthy or is there sumthing I didnt see. For example I love water and I love iced tea, but I stick to water because I thought it was a lot more healthy than iced tea but on the tea nutrition facts it said it didnt have any calories or carbs and I use sweet n low when I drink unsweetened Iced tea. So is unsweetened iced tea just as healthy or just slighty less unhealthier than water if I use sweet n low?

Is there something particularly dangerous about carbs for them?

does this sound ok for a diabetic meals for a day?

breakfast 4am- bowl of special k and milk
snack 8am- special k bar
lunch 11am- soup at hand clam chowder, one serving pringles
dinner 4pm- chicken salad with tomatoes and few crunchy tortilla strips. small corn muffin
snack 7:30 before bed- milk and 100 calorie pack gram crackers

this is what i ate yesterday. is this good ya think? i was told i was type 2 two weeks ago. im still a little lost on the carb exchanges and such. everytime ive tested, its been in the 80-120′s. im on medication and i take it with breakfast and dinner. i have more appointments with doctors. im keeping a diary of my tests and what i eat to get an idea of how my body is reacting to things.

my readings are lower in the mornings and thats when im at work and most active. i work from 5 am to 3 pm. our lunch is at 11 am. in the mornings my readings are in the 80′s and before bed there back in the 80′s. when there a little higher, around 100-120 i feel better and not as tired and sluggish.
the soup at hand is 13 carbs and only 1 gram of sugar

I am 28 weeks pregnant and just diagnosed. The weird thing is that I honestly feel like I eat pretty well balanced meals for the most part, and only eat desserts once in a while. I also avoid wheat already because my husband is allergic, however we do eat other carbs like rice. I’m 142 pounds now, and have gained 25 pounds so far. What did you have to do to keep you blood sugar in check? my reading was very high at 209!

diabetes type 2 and fusterated with doctors?

i am having such a hard time with doctors. last feb i was sick and so i went to the doctor. thats when they told me i was type 2 diabetic. they put me on metformin and told me to change my diet and exercise more. no biggie. ever since that visit, i havent felt the same. i am sick ALL the time. i went to my doctor every couple of weeks. ive had tons of blood work done. the only thing they ever find in my blood work is a high white blood cell count that hasnt gone down. but they cant find the infection causing it. i have gone for a couple second opinions. i have gone to a couple women health doctors. i even saw a cancer doctor that tried to say i had leukemia. but all my tests came back good. one doctor after another and no one can find out why im always sick now. i keep getting every excuse for my symtoms. they say there from the diabetes.. the ONLY other medication i was even on was the depo birthconrol shot. i stopped that a year ago before the diabetes hoping to get pregnant for the first time. they say its stress.. work related.. and another one only lectured me on smoking. i understand smoking isnt good. but would smoking alone make me sick all the time.. cmon!! i had runs all the time. i felt bloated and nasty. i got horrible headaches. sick to my stomach. light headed and dizzy spells. low blood sugars every morning. i would even eat right before bed. i would wake up with 50′s and 60′s. i would feel really disoriented and drink orange juice or something loaded with carbs to wake up every morning. then the orange juice would bring my blood sugar up so quickly that i would get headaches. then it was an every morning ritual to take ibuprofin. i hated it. the doctor wouldnt change the meds or the doeses no matter how much i complained. i was told it will take time to get use to the meds and control the diabetes. so almost everyday it was like work bed work bed cause im always not feeling well to do anything else!!

out of fusteration, i have stopped taking all meds. for a month now. i have felt a TON better. all the stomach problems went away. i havent had any headaches. i started taking vitamins too. im not so tired anymore. i know it had to be the medication. but here is my problem now. i keep an eye on my blood sugar. but its going high now. i am trying the best i can i eat better and control it that way. but unless i eat greens 24/7 i cant. im seeing high 100′s in the mornings and mid afternoons. the highest has been 180. but on the plus side, im not going low at night. when i wake up its 90′s usually.

ugh!! i know i need to go back to the doctor or a doctor. but how do i get them to actually LISTEN to me. my insurance is terrible and i cant afford to keep jumping around doctor to doctor. im getting tired of them running tests i can not afford!!

has anyone else had this problem or can anyone offer any advice?

I was recently diagnosed with pre diabetes because I went to the doctor having all the main symptoms of diabetes. I had lost a lot of weight in just a short amount of time without trying. I was hungry all the time, but my stomach hurt. I was SO thirsty and I had to pee pretty much every 20 minutes. My doctor did the fasting glucose test and the A1C and said that my levels were close, but not quite diabetic yet. She also said that since my dad is diabetic and he has a meter that I should test periodically and if I start seeing numbers consistantly over 120 that I need to be retested. The reason I’m asking about symptoms is because someone I was talking to told me that unless your blood sugar is like 400 or higher you won’t have any of the symptoms I had. I haven’t tested very much, but I have a few times when I started to get the familiar symptoms and my blood sugar was pretty much always over 120. 2 of the times it was 150 5 hours after eating, but the next morning I checked and it had gone back down. So I was wondering if this friend was right or not? Does you blood sugar have to be REALLY high to have symptoms or does even just a little over 120 give some people them? Also, because it’s been high so often I find that I feel sicker when it drops back down again, even though I know it needs to be lower. Is there any way to fix that? I already eat really healthy, and I’ve cut out basically all sweets except on rare special occasions (like Christmas! Haha) Even when I do have them though it’s just in small portions. I’m an average weight, and I’ve started exercising more so that my body would need the carbs and sugar instead of having too much. Is there something else I need to be doing along with that? Does the fact that I’m doing everything my doctor said and still getting the high numbers mean that I’m going to get diabetes anyways? Please help! :)

I was recently diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I have been monitoring my sugar levels for a little over a year now anyways, because I was pre-diabetic/insulin resistant. Anyways, my insurance will no longer carry my test strips and I need to switch to a different brand, so I am out for the weekend. I feel blind not being able to check my sugars 2 hrs. post meals. Although they normally never get over 180 or so, I still feel paranoid that without my strips it could shoot up to the 300′s or something. I was wanting to know if anyone could tell me what point does hyperglycemia become a life threat? 200, 300, 400, how high? I keep a pretty strict diet, so the chances of it getting over 200 are slim, considering that a dose of 100g carbs only brought my sugar to 240 an hour later. Still I am concerned. My doctor seems to think I will be fine until monday without checking myself. In fact she says I check to often. I just want to make sure I never develop horrible diabetic complications. I know there are not really any "symptoms" besides thirst, hunger, and frequent urination.

So, my question is: When I do get my strips and I check my sugar, when does it become an emergency that would require immediate medical attention.

I hear of people having to go to the hospital for insulin drips and such, but I believe they were in the high 500/600 range. I just want to put my mind at ease and know when to take action.

Thanks

Is there something wrong or am I just crazy?

This just does not make any sense. I was checked 2 years ago for diabetes after a 12 hour fast and it was 109 and the doc said that 111 or higher indicated diabetes and I was borderline. Well, I have had pain in my stomach, under my rib cage for about 2 years and was checked for diabetes about a month ago and it was 125 and the doc said 126 was diabetes, not to worry. Then I developed chronic pancreatitis. My biology class is experimenting with elimination diet (eliminate carbs and sugar) so this week is a control week. We don’t change our diet but had to check blood sugar and my fasting count was Monday 145, Tuesday, 101, Wednesday, 124, Thursday 187, and today it was 191! So what the hell does this mean? I have an appointment again on Monday, but if it is under 125 are they going to ignore me again? What do you think? Could this be diabetes or am I just messed in the head?

Pre-diabetic with these readings?

I’m 25. I don’t have a doctor. My mom has Type 2. I got a meter 2 days ago. For 2 mornings it’s about 100. When I’m hungry/weak it’s lower 90s. Today I started feeling strange/weak it was around 86-87. My sugar is usually under 120 or less after 2 hours of eating. Yesterday it was about 135 after 2 hours of eating 168g of carbs – pizza slices. How can I feel normal in the 80s which is supposed to be good?
The pizza was 168g which is way more carbs than usual. When I ate oatmeal for both mornings 70g carbs? it was 180 after 1h. Yesterday it was 100 after 2h and today 118 after 2h. Oatmeal digests very slow so I think that’s why it’s 180 at 1h?
Noccie the times after food do matter and are more important than fasting values. You don’t seem to know what you’re talking about. The fact I feel a bit strange going below 95 makes me think I’m borderline prediabetic. Why did I get a meter? Well that’s a really really stupid question.

Im hypoglycemic now what can I eat?

Im so confused the doc said just to make sure Im eating proteins with my carbs……then gives me a paper that tells me whenI have certain symptoms dink juice or hard candy. I read up and understand the protein thing I think, but it seems like a lose lose situation. I dont get enough sugar yet I should eat sugar because then my body will over produce insulin and my sugar will drop dangerously low. SO can I have a stinkin glass of juice or not? I hate this its so depressing – mainly because its so confusing. I go to my endocrinoligst (whom I have for thyroid soon) but my fam doc did the test and I feel so uninformed…..and everythign I read sounds so scary I have fasting hypoglycemia my level was 39.
Well the hardest part is I dont get symptoms even then I felt fine I dont even feel hungry in the morning and since I cant eat before or after my thyroid med I usually just dont eat till brunch sometimes lunch or when I get hungry but I dont get hungry in the morning….sometimes I eat a small meal before bed so Im sure that contributes but even when I dont Im just not a morning eater and now I have to force feed myself Im guessing. The reason I was tested is because after I eat lunch in the afternoon I often crash hard and just want to sleep a few hours later Im fine. Other than that fatigue I have no symptoms – even at the 39 I felt fine?!
that last website was about excercise and weight loss – Im thin and excercise 5 days a week…..:(

In fact, the entire battery of tests (thryoid, liver, kidney functions) were great. He gave me a test kit and 3 wks of blood tests average 110 (152 highest after eating ice cream/88 lowest). Yet, glucose urine test strips still occasionally show sugar in urine. I started out with some suspected diabetic symptoms (dry mouth/thirst/frequent urination) but they went away after one week. I’m schedule for a Glucose Tolerance Test this week. I am a 44/F 135lbs non-smoking, very healthy diet, etc.. Any ideas what’s up?
I don’t eat sweets (I ate ice cream last week which I do once a month if that), no candy/cookies, no soda pop but I do like carbs. However, ever since sugar starting showing up I’ve cut back on breads, starches, etc. Still sugar in urine.
