she hasnt been able to test her blood sugar because she hasnt bought any test strips for about a month so she has been guessing on how much insulin to put in. she went into dka yesterday and her blood sugar was 500 and so she had to stay overnight, she came home this morning and i just got a call from her bf that she went back to the hospital and isn’t doing too good, what will happen?

I check my daughter’s blood sugar 10-12 times per day. She was diagnosed about 4 months ago now, so that’s … a lot of testing )

So under those circumstances, how long will a meter last? I haven’t had any problems so far, except for half a vial of funky test strips. And when the meter goes bad, how does it go? Does it usually happen a certain way?

Oh, and tell me what kind of meter you have experience with. We use a One Touch Ultra every day, and have a Accu-Chek Compact Plus for back up. We’ve only used that one about 10 times total.

I hear a lot of hype about energy drink and how they can harm your health but what i gather is mainly a spike in the blood sugar. I drink energy drinks but all of them i drink are sugar free. I just would like to know your take on these.

OK, I’m a new diabetic (type2.) I know there’s a direct link between carbohydrate intake and blood sugar increase. But here’s my diet for 2 days – 30 grams of carbs on day 1, 30 on day 2, yet my first reading for day 3 shows an increase of like 20 overnight with no carb intake in between? How?

This is purely out of curiosity, because I’m in medical school and we haven’t extensively covered diabetes yet.
A girl that was at a party I was at was diabetic (not sure which type, but she takes insulin shots) and drinking excessive amounts of beer. She was also smoking weed. She started feeling sick and acting really strange and screaming a lot and throwing up. We tried to test her blood sugar, but she was apparently out of strips so we couldn’t do it. We ended up calling rescue and they took her to the hospital.
Does this sound like hypoglycemia? Best answer goes to the most informative.

I see hundreds of eye floaters. I am diabetic and my blood sugar is probably 150 on average. Do you think lowering my average will help?

Yesterday I took my blood sugar reading and it said 94, then I pricked another finger and used a new strip and it said like over 115 within the same couple minutes. Today I decided to try that again and it went from 101 to 54!, to 121. The first 2 readings from the same finger then the next one was from another finger prick. Is my meter messed up? Why would it vary so much in a matter of a minute or two?

I am unsure whether or not my blood sugar is high or low.
I get light headed, sometimes dizzy, my brain seems to fizzle out & I get rather… dumb, to be honest. & I feel drained.
I do not want to see a doctor about it if I can help it, & I plan to buy a sugar meter in the near future.
Also, I have a low iron count, so I don’t know if that would have anything to do with it.

I recently found out that I have diabetes. I have a meter and test strips but I do not know where to get a finger pricker thingy so I can test my blood sugar. Where can I get one? Online or Store?
I bought my meter at CVS and got the test strips there too but couldn’t find a finger pricker………

When my son woke up this morning and I took his blood sugar was 167 that was right when he woke up. I took it last night and about 2 hrs after he at it was 137!! What is normal?

I’ve been dealing with low blood pressure for the past 6 months and just recently noticed that my blood sugar has been a bit over 200, it has been as high as 215 after a meal, is this high enough to cause low bp?

Ok my daughter is 14 and has been having some issues. We took her to the doctor for a physical and he checked her blood sugar and it was 160 mg/dL. At that time she had a normal fasting reading. But he sent us home w/ a meter and strips to test her after meals. We got readings like these: 168,163,161,159,155 etc. So we had her a1c tested and it came back at 5.7% (which is supposedly normal but he said it was somewhat high for a skinny athletic girl). So we have been checking and now her fasting went from being 85 everyday to 114. I know this is pre-diabetic range but her doctor thinks it could be the VERY early stages of type 1. He says that he thinks her pancreas is fading very slowly. What do you think? Did anyone catch their type 1 early?

just what i asked: Is a blood sugar reading of 114 normal if I got a blood test at the hospital 1/2 hour after eating?

What is the normal blood glucose reading for a non diabetic for fasting/after 2 hours of eating/morning check up? I am 21 years old. I heard less then 120 is the normal range but I got confused about when others said its 140 and lower .

Also I have a Relion: Confirm glucose meter from Walmart, on the Test Strip Bottle it says (assuming its on other brands as well) :

Control Solution Range-
L: 31-58 MG/dL
N: 106-177 MG/dL
H: 289-482 MG/dL

What does these numbers mean? I almost always score in the 140-155Mg range after 2 hours of eating. But after eater not eating for a about 5 hours my reading goes down to the 90s. According to this guide, does it mean my blood sugar is normal? I am not diagnosed with Diabetes. Nor I feel like going to the doctor.

My doctor found that my blood sugar is very high, and slow to come down, after eating but completely normal when fasting. He just claims I should limit sugars and carbs, but I’m concern this could be a symptom of something else. I’m not overweight and all of my other numbers (cholesterol and what not) are perfect.
