I had my 28 week appointment and the midwife did a urine strip test and found glucose in my urine. I had had a cup of sugary tea and sugary cereal for breakfast in the morning. However, she did a blood test too but I won’t get the result for a few days.
What are the chances of having gestational diabetes? Has anyone had this happened to them?

My doctor informed me that at my next doctors appointment we are going to have to do a glucose screening test. Just wondering if all pregnant women have to do it or is it just because diabetes runs in my family? And how gross is the drink that they make you drink? I have bad gag reflex and I’m afraid I might not keep it down.

Hello ladies.
I failed my 1 hr glucose tolerance test.
So now I have to do the crappy 3 hr one.
I was wondering if anyone knew if I could opt to get my blood sugar levels through finger pricks instead of blood draws at the lab.
Obviously I will ask the lab when I make my appointment, but was just curious if anyone else did this.
I have a REAL problem with needles and even made my Husband cry when I had my first blood draw.

That they told them that they do not need to do the three hour test. That the Specialist is going to call them to make an appointment for diabetic counseling.
I am really scared that if the test was that high that i am gonna have issues controlling my sugar level. Do you think that i should demand the three hour test just to be on the safe side? Is there anyway that their could be a false positive with the one hour test for me to fail so bad?

I have a doctors appointment on Thursday ill be 23w4d, will they test for gestational diabetes then or wait till next time when ill be around 28 weeks? I’m so worried about this for some reason and I just want to know! No one has ever had it in my family & I’m not over weight or anything. I’m just worried.

Well I’ve not yet been diagnosed with Diabetes [my appointment is in a couple of days] but in the meantime, and I didn’t ask for this. Somebody bought me one of those monitor things where you can prick your finger to test. I know the results might not be 100%, and it certainly won’t change my mind about the blood test.
But how would I use it for the first time to see if I ‘probably’ have diabetes. The instructions aren’t that clear.

I am 39 weeks and my doctor says that if I haven’t delivered by my next appointment, we will talk about induction because they don’t want me to carry past my due date with gestational diabetes. I am diet controlled and things have gone well. Ultrasounds suggest the baby is about 7 pounds right now, so the size looks healthy. If all is going well, why would the doctors prefer to induce now than wait another week for mother nature?

I have an appointment at my doctor’s office for a blood test tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. They want to check my thyroid, blood sugar levels, and iron count just as an annual check-up sort of thing – I don’t have any current health issues. They told me not to eat or drink anything after midnight tonight, but it’s my friend’s birthday tonight and I would like to have a few drinks with her. As long as I stop drinking before midnight, will it affect the blood test results in any way?? Also, can I drink water in the morning?.. Or when they say to fast, does that also include water? Thanks!

so the doctor put me on a diet …a slice of bread and something with protein such as eggs for breakfast, a glucerna for lunch and salad with either chicken or fish for dinner. I started doing that and lost 6 pounds , I went from 254 to 248 then on tuesday April 5th had an doctor’s appointment and they weighed me saying I weigh 235 and my diet started on the 7th of last month. So my question is is that bad to have lost all that weight in a month , I read in the internet that normal would be 1 pound a week. That anything more than that would be bad. Oh and I don’t skip meals or anything like that I just changed white bread to wheat bread high in fiber , 97 percent fat free turkey ham, fat free dressings for my salads and well basically eat food that are low in fat 2% cheese. I dont drink sodas anymore just water. Ok so back to my question is that bad? Will I gain it all back??

I had my glucose test 2 weeks ago. I had to take the 1hr one this time. If I had failed, would the DR have called me by now, or will she tell me if I fail at my next appointment (two days from now).

I am a type 1 diabetic, ongoing for about 20 years now
very good control, a few reactions occasionally, but nothing overly serious
my old doctor would ask me to visit about every 6 months, but if i waited a while longer, no big deal
the doctor i have now, seems to be a bit more strict.
a while ago i ignored getting a new appointment for quite a while, until my pharmacist said "your prescription has expired, and call the doctor, who renewed it, but said that he wouldn’t anymore if i didn’t make an appointment. this seems to be a strange threat…
so if I didn’t go in, he is basically threatening my life.
does this seem fair to anyone else?

Maybe you should call your doctor for an appointment if you are taking this medication.
"We learned from an FDA briefing that the agency has known about this problem for at least eight months and perhaps even longer," said Dingell. "What we don’t know is why diabetics and their doctors haven’t been notified of the substantial risk to the heart from a drug prescribed to protect the cardiovascular system

I’m up to 1500 mg a day, but the dr wants me on 2000. It’s tearing up my stomach and I’m going through a box of alka seltzer a week. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to ease the indigestion I’m experiencing??
1. I never take it on an empty stomach.
2. I have an appointment to see my doctor on 8/20 and she does know about the irritation.
