1) 40 is too low. Normal blood sugar readings should be 70 mg/DL to 120 mg/DL except within 2 hours of eating when they will be naturally higher. If you are waking up at 40 the best thing you should do is have a snack before going to bed. It should include protein and some carbohydrate.

2) A 90 reading should not concern you because that is quite normal. If you are not feeling well it might be something else causing it.

3) A possibility is that you are slightly hypoglycemic (low blood sugar). The treatment for hypoglycemia is much like that of a diabetic. You need to eat only so much to maintain a normal blood sugar level. For hypoglycemics it is often recommended that you eat 5-6 small meals evenly spaced out during the day, that you watch your fat and carbohydrate intake and that you exercise and maintain a normal weight.

Otherwise, you need to take those readings to your doctor along with a diary of your intake and tell him exactly how you feel bad.

By the way if your sugar is low, usual symptoms are fatigue, cold sweats, inability to concentrate. So, if those are not what you are feeling it may not be your blood sugar.

You don't say whether or not you take medication that might alter your blood sugar, but if you do, your doctor needs to change those immediately. If not, you have something called hypoglycemia. There are ways to handle this, with diet and exercise, mainly lots of little, high protein and fiber meals. OJ will just make it worse later on when the sugar crash hits, pb will help, put it on whole wheat bread.
If you are not on any kind of oral meds, or insulin to make your blood sugar go down, you need to go see a doc that will check you out thoroughly to find out if you have a hormonal imbalance causing this.
Good luck.

you are probably diabetic. 40 is an extremely low number.m mkeep a record of these readings and get them to your dr quickly. if he or she is not experienced in treating diabetes, ask for a referal to someone who is. this is nothing to fool around with.

90 is a good blood sugar level, 40 is not. It sounds like you may be hypo glycemic. Also, your machine might not be accurate. What does your doctor say?

the first question i have is doyou have diabetes in your family. I ask this because you said you bought a glucose meter and most people would never even think about buying soemthing like this.

But anyway you might be hypoglycemic which is on the other end of hte diabetes spectrum. There are certeina poeple who when they eat sugar their bodies acutally burn that sugar really realy fast and their blood sugar goes down. These are know as overoxidizers. I am and over oxidizer and the worst thing you can do is eat sugar. When you eat a lot of sugar it forces all this unsulin and then it knocks out all the sugar in your blood and hten you have low blood sugar.
Now you say you eat but who knows how muchyou eat. You may need more food than what you are eating and you might need better food that what you are eating. You might need more fat because your body can acutally turn fat into sugar if it needs it but stay away from peanut butter. The best fat to eat would be butter. eat soem bread and butter. I know they say butter is bad but butter has short and medium chain fatty acids that go strain in the blood for energy and they don't get stored as fat inthe body. just odnt' eat too much butter.

Eatin a good breakfast with proten and some frut but don't over do it on the fuit juice it could spike you blood sugar then force a lot of inlusin whic will lower your bood sugar.

I woul look into how many calires you are eating and back off on the high glycemin carbs. EAt more protein some fat and complex carb like borcooli and wheat bread and but again not a lot of carbs.

yes..you need to see a Dr that will listen to you...you're making too much insulin, instead of not enough (the opposite of a diabetic).

This is hypoglycemic. Which they say you can't be diabetic if your sugars run low all the time. I have a friend like this. She has to make sure she doesn't skip meals and makes sure she gets a snack when she gets to feeling bad. I am a diabetic and it sucks and makes you feel really bad when you have a low blood sugar! I've been told your blood sugar shouldn't get below 70 and if it does it needs to be treated for a low bs. Juice is really good for this if your not where you can get a snack. Grape juice is what I use. Good luck and I hope you get to the doctor.
