How severe does diabetes have to be to need insulin?
My husband told me that he had a mild case of diabetes but that it was nothing to worry about. Today when I looked in the fridge I saw some of those little insulin bottles. Was he lying to me? Does diabetes need to be severe to need insulin?

A daily or weekly dose of insulin mostly are applied to persons with Type 1 diabetes. I don’t mean to scare you but Type 1 diabetes are the main cause of deaths related to diabetes and its complications, as far as statistics goes. In order for a person to sustained and have a longer life, he must be injected with those daily or weekly dose of insulin as part of his medication. Type 2 on the other, has many ways to manage or prevent it to get worse, it can be a well-balanced diet, regular exercise, loosing weight and sometimes a dose of insulin only as prescribe by doctor but not on a regular basis as opposed to Type 1 diabetes medication.
I found this site http://diabetes-research.net that deals with diabetes. Their intensive diabetes research helps individual to know more about diabetes and show some tips/ways on how to prevent and minimize the effects of diabetes diabetes menu plans to help manage diabetes for those who suffer the illness.
Hope that helps in some way.
if he is using insulin, it’s no "mild" case. sounds like hubby may be in denial about the seriousness of his condition.
It isn’t the severity of the disease it is the type of diabetes he has. I suggest you start looking up information on the internet so you are informed.
it depends on what type he is if hes type 2 he can take installin or take the pills if hes type 1 he needs tp take it
Ask him to talk to you about it. IT has more to do with what Type he has If he has type one this means the body is not producing insulin at all and theirfor he needs insulin to survive. If he has type two he either has to take oral medications or insulin if the oral medications arent working. I would ask hom if you are worried he should be truthful because even if he has to take insulin its not that bad he just has to make sure to keep healthy look after your feet and eyes and make sure your kidneys are healthy. I hope you have good luck with asking him tell him its not as bad as he thinks just to take care of himself and everything will be fine.
If you’re married and have that little communication, you have bigger problems.
His and your definitions of ‘mild’ may be completely different.
If it doesn’t impact on his life much, and he has it under control, then i’d call that mild.
The fact you know so little about your husbands medical state is cause for concern however
You two really need to start talking to each other.
How did you not know he was taking shots? Wow, that’s weird for both of you…perhaps some counseling is in order? You either have diabetes or you don’t. Some who can get by with diet and exercise consider their cases mild, but regardless of what meds you take or don’t take, it doesn’t matter if you don’t keep your BG’s under control. Your body needs what it needs, there’s no shame in needing insulin.
