How can i get rid of my insulin lumps please read on?
I am a 18 year type 1 Diabetic and for four years i have had insulin fat lumps on my stomach, i am thin so the lumps looks rather odd and are playing a horrible role in self esteem.
I haven’t injected there for nearly a year but they aren’t even getting smaller so if anyone has some advice on how to lose them I’d be very grateful. (I heard surgery was an option, but i’d rather not have scars)
Thank you

lol @ insulin lumps. Cute. Ive had sugar my whole life and have never had this problem but I know it is caused by not altering your injection sites enough. Make sure you are moving around spots in the stomach area and give tummy a break at times and use legs, arms, etc. Butts usually have more cushion. So since you are thin that might be a good alternate site. Just make sure you inject into the right areas so that the insulin has the best chance at absorption. If you dont have one get a diagram of all the good shot sites and the best areas to inject at. They will not do surgery on a diabetic unless it is absolutely necessary. Like if the areas became infected. Which you do NOT want so please alternate. Remember diabetics heal slowly so are you sure they arent just scars? Is the skin still noticeably lumpy or does it just look that way to you? Ask your mom or someone you are comfortable with how they look to them. Show the doc to make sure they arent infected and ask for tips on getting rid of them or making them less noticeable. Ive never heard of a diabetic with permanent lumps from injecting insulin so they should go down with time. Sometimes a lil muscle lump can form under the skin at a site that is often used. They are usually not really visible but you can feel it if you push down on it. If thats the case just inject in arms and it will appear as muscles. lol Make sure to keep tummy moisturized with plenty of lotion as diabetics tend to be dehydrated and will also help with the healing and smoothing process. Good luck!!
They should decrease within months after you stop injecting in that site. You should alternate injection sites in order to reduce this problem and get better use from the insulin. If they do not go away then you may want to talk to your doctor about what can be done to remove them.
If they are really dramatic, the best treatment for lipohypertrophy seems to be liposuction. You can do a Google search on "lipohypertrophy treatment" and see if you find any useful information. What has your endo said about this? In theory the lumps should have gone away a few months after you stopped using the site.
