Your blood sugar sounds fine now. Doing the three hour test will tell you for sure.
If you had been diabetic all along, you would not be getting such good readings now, so don’t worry about that.
The main risks of GD are having a very large baby (C-section) and having the baby be born with hypOglycemia (which is temporary).
At this point, sticking to a single slice of pizza is a good idea, and a really good idea to skip the soda. It’s only a few more weeks, hang in there!
Your sugars are really fine.
123 is not too high.
It is close to diabetic range but not quite there.
As far as problems from this very slightly elevated sugar, I doubt there will be any.
Good luck and congrats.
You have not been diabetic all along. The average range for blood glucose levels are between 70-120. 134 is slightly high (but nothing to be super worried about). Once you have the baby, your blood glucose levels return to normal. Now when you number start getting really high, like 200, 300… it is time to get yourself over to the hospital. But I do not think you have to much to worry about. You are to test 2 hours after you eat and before you eat. Your doctor might want you to test in the morning before breakfast, and 2 hours after you eat a certain meal. Watch the sodas. Try to drink lots of water.
Also, there is a lot of info on the web about diabetes. You can even go to the ADA (American Diabetes Association)website and it will tall you a lot about gestational diabetes.
First, I must tell you that stress will elevate those numbers as will infection. Gestational sugar numbers are not unusually high from what you have shown here. My advice is to relax and let the medical team, your Dr., and Nurse, worry about those numbers. You also kneed to know that most any foods you ingest will turn into a form of sugar. From what you have presented here there seems to be nothing to be overly concerned about at this time. Just continue to watch your weight gain, eat a healthy diet, get the proper exercise, and all the things that your Ob Gyn has instructed you to do. Nature has been handling pregnancy issues for a few years now and more often than not all will go well.
You are probably fine; your glucose levels aren’t above the healthy range; it is common for pregnant women to have wacky glucose levels anyway. If you are still worried, occasionally check for ketones, but considering you aren’t over 200 you probably won’t have them.
I would recommend a couple of things:
-Make sure to pick up the book "When You’re a Parent With Diabetes: A Real Life Guide to Staying Healthy While Raising a Family" by Kathryn Gregorio Palmer. It’s an excellent reference to make sure you get through the challenges of pregnancy and diabetes. I have provided a link to it below.
-Come over to TuDiabetes.com, a community of people touched by diabetes. We have a number of members who have experienced gestational diabetes, who can be excellent sources of advice.
Your may be a gestasional diabetic which happens alot in pregnant women. After you have the baby keep a check on your sugar levels. I was a gest. diabetic when i was pregnant with my first child and i didnt keep an eye on it and now im type 1 diabetic and pregnant with my 2nd
They didn’t do a fasting glucose tolerance test on you? They usually try to do it first thing in the morning, before you eat anything and yes, soda and vending machine treats will make it fly through the roof.
I had gestational diabetes with my third child, for one thing, my parents and both sets of grandparents are diabetic, Type 2, for another thing, I’m Native American so that’s another strike, and last, my second son was a little over 9 lbs.
They try to watch for heart problems, stress levels in the baby, premature labor, the baby developing Type 1, but I would definitely get on a diabetic program now to keep you on an even keel.
For the record, after I had my 3rd son, my sugar levels went back to normal and I haven’t developed diabetes yet, I’m doing my best to keep the onset at bay. 82 for a first morning reading isn’t horrid, but mine is 70 or lower, it’s that 123 and 178 that’s not acceptable. I don’t want to scare you, but it’s important, especially now, that you get on a diabetic diet. Good luck!
Your sugars look all right to me. they’re elevated by eating and drop when you’re fasting. They’re returning to a good level after 3 hours …just as they should.
I just wanted to make a comment on your additional comment …don’t eat stuff out of vending machines, Soda and cookies are both really high in sugar and best avoided by most people. Growing a baby must make you very hungry so I’d eat more often but less sugary stuff
Pizza is renowned for causing high sugars in those of us with diabetes …it kind of tricks you ’cause the fats in it make it slow to digest so you feel hungry when you’re eating it. It probably has a similar effect in non diabetics
I wish you good luck and a happy birth
sometimes pregnant women develope diabeties but after the baby is born it goes back to normal just be careful what you eat and lay off the sodas
