My doctor told me not to eat anything two hours before the test to prevent any false positive readings. Drinking water is fine. Good luck!
I wasnt allowed to eat past midnight!! Then they made me drink that yucky cucky stuff and had blood drawn every hour for 3 hours!! It sucked!! It was negative too!!
You can eat as normal but stay away from really sugary foods or it will mess the test up. The test is easy though. They will give you a orange drink like orange pop only not so good and then an hour later draw your blood
It varies from doctor to doctor, some will tell you not to eat or drink for 8 hours ahead of time, some will tell you 2 hours, so you should really call your dr. and see what he wants you to do. Mine had me not eat or drink for 2 hours beforehand so I did it first thing when I woke up one morning. Also, you should avoid anything sweet and/or sugary for 3-4 days to avoid getting a false positive. Good Luck with the test!
I have done the test more than once and each time was told not to eat or drink anything at all after midnight.
If you fail the first test, they will have you do a 3 hour test on another day. You fast for that one as well.
Mine, didnt matter. I was allowed to eat right up until. They are testing if your blood sugar is going to skyrocket, so eating would actually help their test. They are going to make you drink orange pop tasting stuff. I actually loved it. If you werent given instruction, as i wasnt, assume your day as normal. only in certain cirumstances will they tell you not to eat.
My doc said the most common mistake is women are under the impression that they have to fast, and then they get sick! My doc said to eat as I normally do, and bring crackers or a little snack to eat after wards. The drink is really sweet and can make you nauseous after wards. I go for mine on the 2nd and I can’t wait…lol jk!
YES! You do have to fast..if you don’t you can really screw up the results, and you don’t want that. It’s an important test. I learned I did have gestational diabetes through this..and went on to have a healthy baby..but SOOO important to know and modify diet, etc. Good luck!
I don’t know what the rest of these women are talking about or what kind of doctors they have, but you MUST fast before the test. You cannot eat or drink anything for at least 8-10 hours before you take the test. If you eat "normally", your blood sugar levels will be all up and down the board and they will not be able to accuratley interpert the results after you drink the glucola.
I have mine in 2 weeks and my doctor didn’t give me any special instructions. He just said I have to drink a drink and have my blood drawn an hour later. That’s it.
I did the 2 hour test. I had to fast for 12 hours prior to the test. I went to pathology in the morning and they took a blood sample. Then they made me drink the glucose drink. In 1 hour they took another blood sample. The last blood sample was taken another hour after that. I wasn’t allowed to eat until the 3rd blood sample was taken. You can drink water only in the 2nd hour and not the 1st hour.
