Send e mails to the companies that make glucomitors and tell them you need a meter and test strips. They will all send you free meters and maybe even some strips.
Call the insulin companies.Explain your problem. If they cannot help you, they can point you in the direction of help.
Ask community support groups for medical help.
Keep on asking.

Yes there is alot of help for you. Go to the pharmacy that you do your business with. They will advise you what organizations you can apply for help. In addition, you can contact department of family and children services, this depends on your families income whether you can qualify for help from medicaid, medicare. Contact your local health department. Most health departments offer reduced rates and even free care for low income families. Also contact your hospital, most hospitals have individuals who will pay for the cost of your medical problems for their taxes. Its all legal and allows people who can afford to help to help those who really appreciate this assistance. Good luck
Contact the American Diabetes Association or the Canadian Diabetes Association depending on where you live. No diabetic should be without supplies as they are critical in order for you to live.
These associations will help you. They are advocates for Diabetics.
I agree that your county health clinic would be a good bet. You should be able to go there for free. Many companies will give you the monitor for free if you buy the strips; unfortunately, the test strips are the expensive part.
God bless you!
Go see if you qualify for medi-cal from social services, if not Wal-mart has a list of $4.00 medications but, you said insulin reaction, that means low blood sugar from too much insulin or not enough food, probably from not eating at the same time daily, Wal-Mart sells insulin for about $18.00 but that was last year could’ve gone up by now, anyway’s everyone else was selling it for over $35.00. Blood glucose monitors cost about $100.00 but the company will send you back about $85.00 rebate. There’s a herb called (stable sugar) that helps keep your blood glucose up. so no more insulin reactions, at http://www.HCBl.com (Health center for better living)
Check out Partenership for Prescription Assistance at http://www.pparx.org. It’s basically one stop shopping for all the financial assistance for prescriptions. Also talk to the pharmacist; they might have additional resources that can help. As for monitoring the sugar, the store brand meters are anywhere from $9-20. The store brand test strips are usually about half the price of brand name, so about $20-30 for 50 strips as opposed to $50-60. You might qualify for medicaid and/or medicare. In any case, just keep working on it, and eventually you will find a solution.
I get my insulin from Walmart…its the cheapest. you can get NPH and R insulin over the counter, they cost about $20-$24 a vial. i got a new onetouch glucose monitor for $30 (no insurance required). the strips can be expensive, but you can find a monitor and strips for a decent price, you just dont have to get the name-brand, they work just as well. good luck!
I cannot believe that your wife would have been diagnosed as an insulin dependant diabetic and then get left with no support at all about how to obtain the insulin, which she cannot live without,or the means to treat and control her diabetes. This is the year 2007,not 1907 for goodness sake, and I’m assuming here that you don’t live in a "third world country"?
I’d be inclined to take your wife back to where she had her diabetes diagnosed, and refuse to leave until you both get some support. That may sound a bit drastic, but if thats what it takes. What do you have to lose?
Good Luck!
