It certainly isn't guaranteed that they will, though. Most children with Type 1 parents are still not diabetic. But the thing is it can pop up with no family history too. I wouldn't worry too much because even if both parents have it it's not necessarily going to affect the kids. Type 1 is caused mostly by damage or disease to the pancreas so is not as inheritable as type 2. My best friend is the absolutely only person in her large family with type 1 diabetes! Her parents, siblings, children nor grandchildren have even a hint of not being normal. On the other hand, anyone with a sibling, parent, grandparent, other blood relative is subject to getting type 2 diabetes. Not as much chance as most people think! My best friend is the absolutely only person in her large family with type 1 diabetes! Her parents, siblings, children nor grandchildren have even a hint of not being normal.
