Chances of Child with Diabetes if guy has type 1 and girl has family history of type 1?

My brother who has type 1 diabetes is dating a girl who’s father and brother have type 1 too. what are the chances of them having a kid with diabetes? Would it be higher then him having a kid with a women with no history of diabetes?

As it is thought to be genetic, there is a higher chance that they could have a Type 1 child than if neither of them did have diabetes.
It certainly isn’t guaranteed that they will, though. Most children with Type 1 parents are still not diabetic.
Any time there is diabetes in the family it is scary, because it can be passed on. But the thing is it can pop up with no family history too. I wouldn’t worry too much because even if both parents have it it’s not necessarily going to affect the kids.
Not as much chance as most people think! Type 1 is caused mostly by damage or disease to the pancreas so is not as inheritable as type 2.
My best friend is the absolutely only person in her large family with type 1 diabetes! Her parents, siblings, children nor grandchildren have even a hint of not being normal.
On the other hand, anyone with a sibling, parent, grandparent, other blood relative is subject to getting type 2 diabetes.
my husband’s family had diabetes in grandparents (never heard if type 1 or 2) & both parents not diabetic at the time they had kids. the mother developed type 2 late in life. she had 6 kids & 3 came up with type 1 diabetes. one at 1 yr old, another at 14, husband at 16. if it’s real common in the family, the chances are higher of passing it on, either directly to the kid or to the next generation.
