S Looking for some answers for PCOS?!?!?!?!?!?
I’m wondering if anyone has had these details with PCOS and looking for a support grop that works.
I just found out a week ago that I have PCOD, although like many of you I’ve been trying to tell my doctor for a few months now that I have this due to my research and in the past had told doctors that my hormones were messed up due to never having any acne until I was 17 (only on my chin and sides of mouth) and messed up periods after going off birth control….for awhile I just thought my body was messed up from being on the pill because the first time I went off when I was 18 I didn’t have my period for 4 months. My doctor told me that was normal even though I had only been on the pill for about 8 months and that some women do not get their period for a year after going off…anyway he put my back on and things went back to normal until a year ago when I went off after getting married to try and conceive. We have been trying now for about 7 months…because I was told by some to wait until my periods were normal and they never were…I’m pretty sure that I’ve only had one "normal" period since then the others were all very short and light happening about every 31-48 days. This has been my longest cycle ( my last period was June 1) so my doctor has put me on ratio-mpa and next week I start metformin.
I also have been going to nat path who thought too that I had PCOD. I tried Vitex a nat. herb to try and reg. my periods although that didn’t work. I did find through her though that sugar and dairy seem to make acne worse. I hardly have any dairy now and when I have sugar I try to only have natural ones like honey and golden cane in sm doses. A lot of dressings and that you can get from nat. food stores without sugar. I have rice milk or almond milk too instead of cows…I never knew that they inject hormones into cows.
For symptoms…I have only gained about 15 lbs since I was 17/18 I’m not overweight because I am pretty active although this is considered chubby for me in my frame. I can’t loose weight for the life of me unless I pretty much don’t eat any carbs and do high intense cardio which isn’t worth the burnout that my body goes through. lets just say during the summer I played soccer 2 times a week (running in midfield for 80 mins a game), watched everything that went into my mouth, went to the gym 2-3 times a week for an hour at a time and walked/ did videos for a couple times a week and my weight didn’t move…so I wore the biggest sizes that I’ve ever worn as bridesmaid dresses in 2 weddings. I have thin hair on my forehead on the sides and tend to loose hair through washing. I have pimple year around on my chin and sides of mouth but I’;m able to control them with specto gel and not eating sugar and dairy ( before used prescription clinodoxyl gel). I get pimples from sports on my chest and back sometimes in the summer and use a body wash for pimples and get my husband to put tea tree oil on these which helps. I have irr. periods and PMS symptoms that last about 2 weeks before each period. When I wen’t off of the pill I was having panic attacks for the first time in my life about nothing. I also have blonde hair above my upper lip…thabnk god I’m a blonde, but there is more hair there then any of my g/f’s. Nothing showed up in my blood work although I have multiple cysts on my ovaries that showed up in m,y ultrasound.
It is okay to share this.
I am going to see my family doc in a month and my nat. path doc. whenever I get my next period. I will keep you posted…I’m planning on asking my nat. doc about herbs etc that can help with later comp. that occur with this such as heart problems and diabetes also about cinnamon.

Ladies who had Gestational Diabetes- after birth?

I have a mild case, and don’t need medication, just cutting simple sugars out of my diet.
My question is, I’m *hoping* to have a cinnamon roll after I deliver our daughter lol! But realistically, I was wondering how long it took you to recover to the point you could eat sugars again? I’m not looking to down a box of cookies or anything, but I would like to have a couple of my fave foods I’ve been craving!

Also, how did your babies do? Were they healthy, or did they have problems regulating their blood sugars right away? Like I said, mine is a mild case, so I’m not terribly worried, but I’m still being cautious because I don’t want to risk any problems to her!

And a side question… If I’m ok to eat sugar, but baby has slight problem regulating her insulin… will the sugar i eat be secreted in breastmilk and cause her problems or prolong her inability to regulate her insulin?? Just stuff I’ve been thinking about!

Thanks everyone for your input!

does the smell of cinnabon turns you into a zombie?

whats up with cinnabon, the smell of their cinnamon rolls just turns me into a mindless zombie. Every time i walk by a store in a mall or the transit center i smell that stuff and i just forget what or where i was going and just fight the temptation to get one. That place is nothing but trouble. a one way road to diabetes with all that sugar. Does anyone else think cinnabon is using the smell to bait customers?

Am I at any risk of getting diabetes?

Today my dad made me take a glucose reading with his strip blood reader thing. I am a very healthy 16 year old male who is, and I dont mean to brag, in tip-top shape. I am 5′9, and weigh 160 pounds approx. and max bench 225. I run track and play football, and my 40 time is a 4.6. Even with those numbers though, I do find that my stamina fails me sometimes while playing sports, and I can feel tired just a little after starting. I never eat junk food, and when I say that I mean rarely ever. I do chew sugar-free, (with small amounts of sugar alcohol) gum almost religiously, and I do drink a lot of water (on some days up to 7 to 8 water bottles.) Anyways, my glucose reading was a very high 151, and now my family is worried about me. I love to eat fruit by the way, every day. Could the fact that I had eaten a bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch twenty minutes before have been a reason? Please help me because these readings almost seem unbelievable…

Here’s my menu (I know it may seem long but please read, I need the help):

Breakfast
- Salmon cakes with egg white omelet with onion (2 or 3 egg whites), sauteed diced tomatoes, fresh raw spinach, fresh avocado, 1 slice of whole grain toast, extra virgin olive oil, berry smoothie (with frozen strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, 1 fresh orange, green tea - I heard berries were low in sugar)

Snack
- Smoothie with chlorella and spirulina (form of blue-green algae powder), 1/2 a small kiwi, 1/4 mango, 1/4 cup frozen pineapple (not from can), 1 whole apple (with skin), 1/4 of a fresh banana (less than half), sugar-free sweetener - All these fruits plus water are in the smoothie

Lunch
- Homemade soup with extra beans for protein, egg whites stirred in broth, lean meat for more protein and vegetables, PLUS a tuna or turkey with swiss cheese sandwich on whole grain bread with lettuce and tomatoes (just half a sandwich though)

Snack
- Yogurt Parfait made from low fat, sugar-free, Plain yogurt, sweetened with sugar free sweetener, with granola (homemade from toasted oats and HONEY???? - don’t know if honey is good????) and Fresh strawberries and blueberries (a dash of cinnamon optional - heard cinnamon is good for blood sugar)
OR
a handful of walnuts with raisins (don’t know if raisins are bad for diabetes????)

Dinner
- Fresh salad with lean meat and fresh veggies, ranch dressing OR a cod salad with salted cod, yucca root (heard it was not too bad for blood sugar), fresh spinach, fresh tomatoes, steamed carrots, hard boiled eggs and carmalized onions (I know the onions might not be so good - so I can use raw onion) and extra virgin olive oil

Snack
- Chocolate Smoothie with raw, sugar-free, organic cacao powder (it’s just raw cocoa bean powder), cacao nibs (raw cocoa bean pieces, naturally sugar-free cause it’s raw cocoa bean), fresh, homemade almond milk (just water + almonds and sugar-free sweetener which is optional), 1/4 of a fresh banana, 2 tspns or tblspns of ground flaxseed for a healthy fat and protein (all of these go in the blender for smoothie)

That’s it… but is the fruit bad ESPECIALLY the banana??? And are raisins or the honey not o.k. for diabetes???

Help

Is this menu o.k. for blood sugar (I’ll eat every two to three hours a day).
Forgot to mention… I will also drink green tea three to four times a day (I’ll work my way up to it) and PLENTY of water 64 oz or more depending on exercise.

I will also exercise regularly with aerobic and strength training exercise.

Heard green tea helped with blood sugar.

Abel Gonzales, 36, a computer analyst from Dallas, tried about 15 different varieties before coming up with his perfect recipe — a batter mix made with Coca-Cola syrup, a drizzle of strawberry syrup, and some strawberries.

Balls of the batter are then deep-fried, ending up like ping-pong ball sized doughnuts which are then served in a cup, topped with Coca-Cola syrup, whipped cream, cinnamon sugar and a cherry on the top.

When I eat foods that contains carbohydrates such as white rice and bread, I do get some tingly sensations and in my feet and sometimes the hands and my body itches. I used to consume a lot of soda but have reduced it ever since I noticed these signs. I have not visited a doctor yet, because I don’t have any health insurance. I have been using Garlic Oil and Cinnamon supplements and it helps but I believe I still need help. Should I stop eating white rice and white bread all out? I am confused. What should I do?
Can anybody recommend any hospital/clinic that I can go for free diabetes or medical check up for treatment if these symptoms are signs that I have the disease?

do I have diabetes/what should I do?

I have a long history of diabetes on my dad’s side and heart failure on my mom’s side.
I in the past few days have experienced seemingly random numbness, burning and/or stabbing feelings in my toes and fingers. I have been eating very healthy lately and excersizing regularly(but haven’t been doing much the past 5 weeks because of different scheduling mixups and forgetfulness), I’m 14 yrs. old, 5′11", and ~215 lb.

I was 210 when I was really getting into going to the gym with a friend and his dad but I’ve gained some since.

I regularly drink LOTS of water and I don’t drink much else, milk sometimes, no soda.
and I’m good about sugary stuff, but today I had some REALLY sugary homemade cinnamon buns and that’s when I started to feel weird with my toes burning big time, I had to get an icepack out.(btw I felt burning but on the outside they didn’t feel hot)

what do you think?
right now my toes are on and off numbing

btw I’m 15, not 14, lol
I’m not buying your drugs ok, I’m just wanting an explanation of my symptoms

Type 2 diabetes and vitamin suppliments?

I’m currently taking metformin and glipizide and aspirin regiment. I noticed a "diabetes support pack" in the store the other day, could there be possible side effects if taking in addition to my meds?
Vitamins are:
A, for eye health
E & B6, for heart health
Lutein, for eyes
Cinnamon/Chromium Picolinate, for glucose and sugar metabolism
Alpha Lipoic Acid, to fight cell damaging free radicals
Slenium, to support the prostrate and immune system
folic acid, to maintain nerve function
Co Q-10, for heart health
vitamin C, for support to immune system

Will any of these counter- act the metformin or glipizide?

Also, is it true that ginkobiloba helps with memory retention? and could this also be used with the metformin/glipizide?

I am 34 weeks pregnant and was diagnosed just a little over a week ago with gestational diabetes. I’ve just started testing my blood glucose levels as of Friday, after I met with a dietitian and a gestational diabetes expert. Anyway, I’m still a little in the dark about this whole thing and I’m wondering if I messed things up or something. Before I get to my question, I should also say that my numbers on the oral glucose tolerance test were 2 points high at 1 hour and 14 points high at 2 hours, so I don’t think I’ve got GD really bad.

Anyway, yesterday night and the night before, when I tested my glucose levels, my levels were 106 and 119 respectively. Tonight, when I checked, it came back as 86. Could I just have not eaten enough today or is this a good thing? My dinner tonight was spaghetti, chicken, a big salad and a glass of milk. I was supposed to have a piece of fruit, but I couldn’t eat it, I was too full from the rest of it. Could that be the reason my levels were lower tonight than last night?

One other thing, I read that cinnamon can lower blood glucose levels and I had some on my snack after lunch, could that have caused it?
I was told by the dietitian that anything under 100 was find for fasting levels (mine have both been in the low 70s) and that for 1 hour after meals anything under 135 is fine.
I was told the lower limit varies by dietitian, but that I should go with 65 as a lower limit and that at 60, I’d probably be starving. I’m sure you can tell I’m still very new to this. Thanks!

Is that proven cinnamon depletes belly fat?

CINNAMON fights belly fat, high blood pressure, high triglycerides and blood sugar problems! It’s true. Test subjects who took small doses of cinnamon regularly reaped absolutely astounding health benefits including: Better blood sugar control, 25% LOWER triglycerides for patients with type 2 diabetes, and it also helped lower LDL ("bad") cholesterol levels a whopping 27% — helped fight belly fat at the same time! Exactly how much cinnamon do you need? See the researchers’ advice on page 82.

Sugar and diabetes…?

I was wondering about this.

My family has a past history of diabetes. In fact, my father was diagnosed with it a few months back.

I figured my dad’s right, and I better get cracking on my diet if I’m to try and avoid diabetes when I am older.

But I like the sugar. What I was wondering is, can I substitute honey in places I used to use sugar?

Like can I use honey in tea, coffee, on toast in the morning? When I would eat toast, I use to put butter, cinnamon, and sugar on it. I know cinnamon is good for me in small amounts, and I know I need to lay off the butter.

I was wondering if I made wheat bread toast, and put only honey and cinnamon on it, would that be good for me? Or should I avoid honey also, and just learn to do without sweetness?

Because I really don’t know if I can hold to that. It would not be the first time I tried to lay off the sugar, and I just could not do without something sweet. It’s almost like an addiction.

But anyway, can I substitute honey on these things?
