Can an employer demote you for having Insulin reactions at work?
I was recently demoted for having insulin reactions at work. Can an employer do that? Diabetes is concidered a disability

NO – that is illegal, and it doesn’t matter if diabetes is considered a disablity or not. People’s health conditions are not supposed to be taken into consideration while they are on the job or for hiring. Plus, you have no control over insulin reactions
(Are the people who go on smoke breaks demoted for trying to voluntarily give themselves cancer?)
This is from a government website (see source below)
The ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) requires employers to provide adjustments or modifications to enable people with disabilities to enjoy equal employment opportunities unless doing so would be an undue hardship (i.e., a significant difficulty or expense). Accommodations vary depending on the needs of the individual with a disability. Not all employees with diabetes will need an accommodation or require the same accommodation.
8. What types of reasonable accommodations may employees with diabetes need?
Some employees may need one or more of the following accommodations:
a private area to test blood sugar levels or to take insulin
a place to rest until blood sugar levels become normal(6)
breaks to eat or drink, take medication, or test blood sugar levels
For other people – never, ever tell during an interview that you have diabetes; and if the employer asks about your health during an interview, that is illegal.
No, as long as you can prove that was the reason why you were demoted, you can sue.
There is no way they can do that! it is completely against the law
I would think it would be illegal because as you stated, Diabetes is a disability.
The only way to get a definitive answer is to talk to a lawyer. Most will give free consultations either in person or over the phone.
Sorry I can’t provide much more insight.
Good luck
No, but I’ve been refused jobs because of diabetes before – it’s prejudice and ignorant but I didn’t take legal action because I decided I didn’t have the energy for it at the time. But that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t! You should consult a layer to find out where you stand. good luck xxx
