If the pancreas was injured then it is definitely possible. It can be mended depending on the degree of injury. Have him see a specialist like an endocrinologist and ask for special testing to find out for sure.
When someone asks ‘is it possible’ I often reply that anything is possible. In this case I would say that it is not possible. The pancreas is a retro-peritoneal organ. If it were damaged there would have to have been massive abdominal damage. In addition if the pancreas were damaged it would not simply be the beta (insulin producing) cells that were destroyed. If the beta cells had been damaged it would have to have been essentially all of the beta cells. There is no possibility that the motor vehicle accident led to type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes may not be ‘cured or mended’. It requires life-long insulin. I wish you both the very best of health and in all things may God bless.
