I have a One Touch Ultra 2 glucose monitor and I am getting different readings in less than 30 seconds of each other. My monitor is calibrated to the strips that I am using. I have even tested it. The R.N.P. at the clinic did not give me the rundown on the monitor. She didn’t even show me how to use. I think she was in a hurry. She had told me to read the instructions. So, I’ve been testing myself for a few weeks and I was poking my finger then getting the first blood draw. I noticed at the clinic they would clean the area, poke the finger, wipe the first blood dot and then get the next one. As soon as I was doing it the way the clinic was, I was getting a lot lower readings. Does anyone have this problem?
What I mean is:
If you have type 1 diabetes, is it okay to eat candy? I know you’re not supposed to have regular soda, but you can still have diet soda right? Can you have junk food like cheeseburgers, milkshakes, and french fries? Also, can you have cupcakes and cake? One more quick question, can you have sushi??? Please reply, it’s really important and all the doctor ever says are big words I don’t understand! Thanks for your help….if you try to answer this question please answer all of it, not just part! Thanks soooo much again!!!
I’m a freshman in college, majoring in nutrition. For my major you have to do a 5th year internship. To be chosen, it looks really good if you’ve worked and volunteered in things that relate somewhat to nutrition. I’m trying to think outside the box. I’ve been looking at the local hospital, my states food bank and nursing homes. Also job-wise there are restaurants and grocery stores maybe? But what are some other ideas where I could possibly work with any connection to food? I’d really appreciate any ideas! Thanks!
What exactly are they testing if it’s not blood sugar? If the level is very high, does that mean something different than having high blood sugar?
The actual number is 105, incidentally.
I wish I could be more clear, but this is third-hand information that I got already garbled. I thought after doing some web surfing that maybe it was a weird way of describing a glycohemoglobin test, but I’m not sure.
Recently I’ve wanted to change things up a bit in life and do something different – teach English in Korea. However, I am type 1 (juvenile) diabetic, and I’m not sure about the availability/cost/insurance coverage/insulin brands in Korea. Does anyone have any experience with this? Many websites about the insurance says that prescriptions are available, but I wasn’t sure how the insurance worked with a chronic disease like type 1 diabetes.
On that note, I’m still in the research stage and any insight – especially recommendations for schools in Seoul – would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
I went in to my doctors office yesterday after feeling lightheaded and dizzy all weekend. My doctor wasn’t in, so I had to see a PA. She told me my sugar was at 63 which is low. She then told me to wait until I see my regular doctor on the 13th to see what he thinks we should do. I’m high risk, so she didn’t really want to touch me. I’m just wondering what should I do if I begin to feel lightheaded between today and tomorrow afternoon when I see my regular doctor? Anyone experience this? Is it common?
I am talking about flavored dips which contain sugar but I have no idea how much.
My doctor is telling me I’m diabetic. My fasting glucose is 125 (was 94 last time), and my A1c is 6.2 (never had this test before). I think she is being overly conservative, and that I’m only pre-diabetic at this time. She wants to put me on medication, and I don’t wish to take any more pills at this point, since I’m already on blood pressure medication. She is going to have me repeat the bloodwork in two weeks. If my levels have not decreased, she wants to prescribe Glucophage for me. What are some things I can do over the next two weeks to insure that my results will be as close to normal as possible? I know I should keep my carb consumption low, but is there anything else I can do as well?
I have to inject my Novalog and then sometimes my Lantus around the same hour. Usually at the same time twice a day. I inject both insulin’s in different parts of my body but still use that same needle. I do use alcohol to wipe the needle before I put in the other vial. Is this not safe. Can I get a disease or infection doing it this way?
I dont want to go to my doctor now because he already told me (without running tests) that I am not hypoglycemic. However, I know that I am. So would I go to an endocrinologist or what? Just for a one time visit kind of thing.
Thanks
