My blood sugar is almost always pretty good, but this morning when I tested it myself it was too high, and just my luck, first thing today I had to present myself to the lab for my fasting blood sugar test and I have to see the doctor in a few days. I’m counting on the lab work to show a more accurate picture than my home glucometer does, but I work really hard to control this with exercise, diet and maintaining a normal weight, so I’ve been kind of bummed out today and I’m afraid I’m going to get a medication adjustment. Does the same thing happen to you?
Thank you, everyone, for your kind responses.

I am Type II Diabetic. Supposing I overeat, it doesn’t matter, what my blood sugar has gone too high as a result. Other than extra medication which I won’t do if it is not prescribed ,is there anything I can do to help lower it to a better level? Don’t say don’t overeat because let’s face it, everyone does it once in awhile!

Hey I am in an engineering program at my high school and for our senior year we have to come up with an original invention. I want to make some sort of leg-holster that diabetics could use to hold their supplies when they are going somewhere that it would be inconvenient to carry a bag.
Before starting our project, have to ask people to fill out a survey to see if our idea would be useful. If you have a minute to fill out this survey it would be very useful. Thanks!
1. Gender:
2. Age (optional):
3. Do you ever get annoyed having to wear (or being told to wear) some sort of diabetic identification?
-
4. What diabetic supplies do you usually carry with you (i.e. meter, glucose, etc.)?
-
5. Is carrying these supplies (or a bag to hold the supplies) ever an inconvenience?
-
6. Do you think a holster-like device that you could attach to your leg and eliminate the need for a bag would be useful?
-
7. If one could be designed to be compact and relatively comfortable, would you use it? Why or why not?
-

87-year old, legally blind mother can’t see to read results of her daily in-home blood tests. There must be numerous blind people with diabetis. How do they read/determine results of their daily blood sugar tests?

My 13 year old dog has had type 1 diabetes for probably about a moth and we cant afford to buy her insulin because its around a moth plus 5 for blood work. Is there anything else that can maintain her diabetes besides insulin? Also if we do not give her any medication how long will she survive for? Thank you so much!

I have been testing my parents blood sugar for some time now and for some reason or other every time that I test them, mom always says that I am doing it wrong. She will tell me that I need to rub alcohol on her finger first, or that if it is still wet it will not give a correct reading. If I squeeze her finger that it will not give the right reading. That I’m not using enough blood or I’m using too much blood. Once the strip is full and the machine will beep so I don’t know how I can get too much or not enough, most of the time she says it is not enough. She has even told me that you can’t use the same finger every time as well. I want to know from start to finish what are the steps in doing the blood sugar test. I do mean from turning the machine on and until you shut it off, which in this case their machines shuts off by their self after so many seconds goes by once the strip is pulled out. Please tell me what all has to be done to get the correct blood sugar reading. Please help!!
